It  had  been   20 years  since   Philip   Duke  Of Brittany   had  seen  his  beloved   Anacona,   the  beautiful  and   intelligent  Amerindian Queen  of   the  island  of  St.Lucia. 20  years   that   he  failed   to keep  his  promise  to  go back  for  her. Twenty   years   since  that  long   fate  full  day  in   1651. And  now  in  his castle  thinking  about her   exotic  olive  skin, her  long  brown  hair  and  watery  brown  eyes. Twenty  years, is  all he  could  think  about  Twenty  long bloody  years!

A  lot  had  happen  during this  time, his  mother   had  died, the  thirty  years  war and  the  Franco- Spanish War. He  really  didn't  have  any time    to  plan  a    trip  back  to the  island,   there  was   always  something  major  happening, somewar, some one   dying  or  getting  sick.    Time  had    been   wonderful  to the  very   handsome  duke,   now   nearing  his  fifties, the  duke  had  never  married  nor   had   children  for   he  was  stuck  on  his   true  love   the  Carib  Anacona, he  wondered  what  became  of  her , as  he   had   now  know  that  his  people  the  French  was  in total  control  of the  island  for  now, although  the were  fighting  the    English  for   it.

Philip  was  sadden  by his  lack of action  of  not  bring her  to France,   his  mistake  of   not  marrying  her  in some   tribal  wedding ceremony.  He  prayed  to God  that  she  was  alive   and well  and  happy   and the  the colonists  had  not  killed  her  or  her  own  people.

He  wondered  how  she  looked   now but  he    was  sure   she aged  gracefully  because  she was  gorgerous    in and outside.  He  wondered   whether  he    can  go  now  and  try  to  find   her,  he   wondered  if  he  could    do that    but thought  against  , there  was a war  brewing around  in Europe  and  he  thought  she  would  be  safer  in Saint Lucie.

For  twenty  years all he  did    was  think   and  dream  about her  and  everytime  the  dream would  be  the  same. He  would  find  himself   on the  beach  and  she  would  be  crying  out  to  him  to  come   for  and  save  her   and  everytime   that   he  did,  she  would  disappear, the  same  bloody  dream   fro  over    twenty  years.  He   did  not  know  what  to  do   but  talk  to  his  friend  the  Roman  Catholic  priest   Father Andre  ,  he  remembered  when  he  told  his  friend  and  his  reactions .

Father  Andre said "  You  left   her!" and  Philip  kept saying, I had  no  chocie  they  were  going to  kill  her"  and Father  Andre   said"  You  could   thinkof  something, you  left   her  there?  Now   do  you  know  that   her  people  haven't  killed  her, they may   consider  her  traitor.  do  you  know  if  she  is  still  alive?"

That  conversation   with   Father  Andre  made  Philip realize   that    he  did  not   do  anything  to fight  for   the  love  for    his  life. He just  left  there  to   rot, left  there  to   fend  for  herself. He   hated  himself  now, he   now    had  no idea  whether  to find   out if  she  was  alive  or  dead.

Anacona  changed  his  life  and  he  had  some   many  women   in Europe after  him  that    not   one  woman   was  like  her.  He  had  no wife and  no children and  his various   relations  who  had   children and  were  married  couldn't wait  for  the  day   that  he  died  so that they can  fight among themselves   for  his duchy.  But  that   will be  a  long  time  coming.  for he  was  not  going  to  die  anytime  soon and  a  child  a  daughter  he  never  knew will  come    to   find  him.
