Now it was just me and my dad. Alone. "Isaac? Come get food." I took a deep breathe as I walked into our kitchen he had brought home takeout so I started getting food on my plate. Once I was done I made my way to the stairs. "No, we are eating at the table tonight." He said as he placed his plate down on one end of the table. We haven't eaten at the table since my mom passed away. I sat at the opposite end of the table to be as far away from him as possible mentally preparing myself for whatever was going to come. "So son," He said as he took a bite of food. "How are your grades?" There it was. The question I had been dreading all night. It seems ridiculous but the thing that gets my dad the most worked up is if my grades are low. My Algebra grade is a D and a D is beyond failing in my dads world. He expects so much out of me and it is really hard to meet his expectations but he would never listen to me even if I tried to explain to him how hard I try in school.
"I have two A's, a B, .. and a D," I said looking down at my food. "A what?" "A D, dad I am really sorry I-" "Isaac you know that is completely unacceptable in this house!" he said getting louder. "Dad I know if you-" "ITS FROM THAT DAMNED GIRL YOU'VE BEEN DATING ISN'T IT?!" "DON'T TALK ABOUT SOPHIA LIKE THAT!" I yelled back, I am so protective of her he doesn't need to bring her into this. "YOU KNOW BETTER THEN TO TALK BACK LIKE THAT I TAUGHT YOU BETTER THEN THIS." He screamed standing up picking up his cup and throwing it missing my head by inches. A piece of glass left a big gash along my left cheek as I stumbled back into the wall. He came over to me and punched me once in my left eye and twice on my right cheek before I got up and ran for the door, to scared to look and see if he was chasing after me.
I had hopped onto my bike and peddled down the driveway seeing my dad barge out of the house and running to his car to follow me. I quickly got out of my neighborhood and into the city. I started weaving in and out of buildings to make sure my dad wouldn't find me. Once I was sure I lost him I stopped pedaling and sat down on the side of a building.
I checked my phone seeing two texts from Sophia and a missed call. I found myself staring at the background on my phone. It was a picture of me and her kissing. Her long light brown hair was blowing back from the wind and I was actually smiling. I only smiled whenever I was around her nowadays she seems to make everything better even when my life gets really rough from my dad.
After waiting a hour I checked the time and decided to go home. He was probably out at a bar getting drunk.. drunker by now. As I expected his car was not in the driveway when I got back so I just went upstairs to go to bed.
