Chester fiddled with the hem of his shirt as he sat on the couch. Parker, for the last ten minutes, had been clarifying the rules that Chester had missed since he zoned out, while James had wandered off to who knows where.
"One of the more obvious rules is no hitting on Chloe," Parker explained. "Which, I mean, obviously isn't going to be an issue, cause you know, she's a minor and that's obviously not why we're here."
Chester just sighed quietly, leaning forward, he placed his elbows on his knee and rested his head in the palm of his hands. 'Good thing she is a minor or that would be a problem,' Chester thought as he recalled what happened with one of their other videos. 'Actually, now that I think about it a lot of the emails that we respond to are from young adult women. Wait, when was the last time we actually responded to an email from a guy?' (Guess whose brain cells just started to work)
"Okay, that's all you missed," Parker said. "And dude, at least try to pay more attention."
"Yeah, sure, I'll do that," Chester replied as he looked down at the rug bottommost his feet.
"I'm not trying to be mean bro, I just want you to take this seriously."
'Take this seriously?!' Chester thought. 'Are you kidding me? Of course, I'm taking this seriously, why wouldn't I be? Does he really think that I don't take these investigations legitimately?' Now that was a hurtful thought. Does Parker really think of him like that, someone who doesn't take his literal job seriously?
The sound of loud footsteps signified that James had entered the room. Chester shifted his gaze up to look at him properly.
"I have work to do in the garage," James said before he turned around. He only goes a few steps before he turns back around slightly. "Watch. My. Kids." He said sternly in an aggressive pitch. The sound of his loud, heavy footsteps from his steeled-toed work boots began subsiding as he grew farther away and disappeared into their garage. After what felt like an eternity, Chester and Parker heard the entrance to the garage close. Parker eyed Chester.
"So.. now what?" Parker put a question too.
"Uh... I don't know, talk to the kids I guess?" Chester says in a query tone. He was abjured that Parker asked him for his input.
"Okay, good idea. Last time I saw them they were heading upstairs." Parker stated. They motioned towards the stairs. As they were walking up Parker said "Hey bro, take out the camera. Their dad is gone so we can film now." Upon reaching the top of the stairs they turned the corner around the stairwell to face a hallway with 5 white doors that stood out like a sore thumb when compared to the rest of the hall. The floor was an old, dark oak that creaked upon stepping foot on it. The walls were painted a dim rustic-looking green that had stains on it from the many years it has been up. There were very few wall hangings upon the rustic features, which contrasted with the appearance of the floor below it. On the somehow dirtied ceiling, there were old-looking stained glass lights that poorly illuminated the hall. Along the walls, you could see the dusty, beaten trim was slightly elevated and peeling off the walls. It was noticeable that the nails of the trim weren't in the walls as they should be. Overall, the second floor highly contrasted with the initial floor they saw. Almost as if they had stepped into a completely different house.
"Okay, which room is theirs?" Chester questioned as they walked down the hallway. "Probably the one with the giant rainbow on it," Parker said in a matter-of-fact tone and pointed to a white door with a large, bright rainbow painted on it.
"Oh, yea.." Chester mumbled in a defeated tone of voice.
Parker motioned to knock on the door but before he could, the door opened, and there stood the teen, holding a toy duck. "Hi, I heard you out here. Do you want to come in?" the teen asked politely. "How did you hear us? We weren't talking that loud." Chester asks, standing quietly behind Parker.
