I awoke to the sound of people on the television babbling on about low prices. Unsure of when I fell asleep, I slowly looked around the living room trying to get my bearings. Getting up I kicked over a cup smelling like hot chocolate and then it all came back again. Last night certainly was amazing. I couldn't help but grin thinking about it and thinking about how I was going to make my next move. Suddenly the front door swung open revealing my dad. Expecting him to just be on his way back to work I turned my attention to fixing myself some breakfast. Midway through scrambling eggs to my surprise was laying down on the sofa. Would he actually be home for more than five seconds? It seemed like months since he last did it so I was surprised it was even still a possibility. Sitting down to start my meal, out of the corner of my eye I saw him turn in my direction."How was your day yesterday?"
How was my day? Can I actually get through talking to him in full without him leaving? Seizing the opportunity I went on to tell him about what I did yesterday; excluding all the parts where I was breaking and entering and getting sucker punched. He looked as if he was paying attention. For the first time in a long time I was finally having a proper conversation with him. Of course nothing lasts forever and almost as soon as we started making progress he was sound asleep. The overworked family man doing what he loves best. Sure he gets paid for working but this feels like his real reward. Not wanting to wake him I left for a walk.
I thought about paying Kaia another visit but realizing I still didn't have my switchblade I decided against it. Just about reaching the community park, I noticed something in the distance. Looking closer it appeared to be a person flat on the ground. Rushing over I flipped him onto his back. His face was pale, his eyes seemed dull as if his soul left his body. Lightly tapping him on the cheek he began showing signs of life."What happened to you?" I asked. He gave no response, just a dead stare once again. "Do you live nearby?" Raising my voice a little to try and rattle him, he finally pointed further down the street. Clearly he wasn't gonna move himself and he was in pretty bad shape. Reluctantly, I put him on my back and started running in the direction he pointed. Being honest I felt like I was carrying an elephant or some otherworldly beast weighing a ton. My legs were starting to give out when he pointed to a house across the road. It was Mrs Walker's house. Of course! How I didn't think of it stumped me. A seemingly lovely woman at first but getting to know her you'd realize she doesn't care much for her kids. Focusing more on the underground circuit, she was a parent second and a underground fight organizer first. She had been in the neighborhood longer than most people, rumor has it she sets up underground fights for anyone willing to brawl. To think such a nice looking woman could be the head of illegal activities. Entering her yard with whichever one of her kids was on my back I yelled her name.
"Oh heavens, thank goodness you found child number two."
"Child number two?"
"Boy when you've had as many as me you Fi it easier to use numbers."
Gently lowering 'child number two ' off my back he stumbled around for a but before making his way inside the house. I looked down at Mrs Walker. She was barely up to my chest in height but just by the way she stood alone was enough to tell you not to mess with this woman. Digging into her robe's pocket she pulled out a stack of money, probably earned from all her illegal fighting matches.
"I guess I should thank you for bringing back my boy, here." A little skeptical at first,I thought to myself the money was probably made illegally but at least I'd use it for good. Before I could turn to leave she started circling me. She stopped in front and looked at me up to down. With a big puff or her cigarette she gave me a sly grin.
"You don't look like the athletic type, but if you could manage to carry my boy here then you definitely have a shot in my ring."
"Sorry but no thanks"
