Marty had felt like a walking bundle of nerves since the group realized that Moana and Nala had gone after Daniels. He knew that they could handle themselves, and that Daniels didn't have the gun anymore, but...still...
He and Red had led Jack Skellington, the two toys, and Lightning McQueen out of the Suite (after returning the journal to its proper place) and to the front of the Castle. They were met there by two friends of Mr. Chen's, cast members Izumi (who wore the costume of one of the Haunted Mansion attendants) and Enrico (who dressed like an attendant from Space Mountain). The two were only mildly surprised to see the characters (apparently Izumi was a big fan of the Cars franchise), and led them down to the entrance of the tunnels.
The second he saw Mr. Chen running up with Moana and Nala, he felt most of the tension leave his body. He hadn't realized, until then, how scared he'd truly been.
"Estoy tan contenta de que estés a salvo!" Red shouted as she ran up to hug Moana. Mr. Chen was grinning from ear to ear as he held up the retrieved Charm. Izumi and Enrico audibly sighed with relief.
"Great!" McQueen shouted. "Now what?"
"Izumi, I need you to take the kids and characters to my office. Enrico, I need you to call the police so we can get Daniels out of here for good. The rest of you, go with Izumi. I'll take a different tunnel, and I'll keep the Charm with me. I don't think Daniels will come after us, but if he does, he's more likely to go after the Charm than anyone or anything else."
"Sir," Marty asked, "are you su–?"
"Please, Marty, I need you all to trust me right now. Miss Iwamatsu," he said to Izumi, "take them there the main way!"
Izumi gestured for them all to follow her while Enrico took off down an adjacent tunnel, ostensibly to call the cops. The tunnels were an utter maze to Marty, but Izumi clearly knew the way. He was glad for it; aside from some of the walls having different colors, everything looked exactly the same.
He carried Woody on his back, with the cowboy holding onto the hood of his sweatshirt. Buzz was being carried on Red's back, holding onto her braid for balance. Everyone else ran after Izumi at an almost panicked pace; clearly they were all desperate to get home. The only one not hurrying was McQueen, but most likely because everyone's combined top speed was more like a leisurely drive to him. The car even looked a little frustrated at everyone's slow pace.
Finally, they made it to a door with a plaque on it. Marty let out an exhausted (yet relieved) sigh when he read it: Mr. S. Chen, Management. They'd made it.
Mr. Chen hadn't given anyone a key, so they all had to wait for him. He'd taken another route, so Marty hadn't expected him to be there first. He'd probably arrive in a few minutes. But after ten minutes passed with no sign of him, everyone started to get worried. Izumi pulled out her radio, and asked Mr. Chen for his location.
"Mr. Chen," she asked into her radio, "where are you?"
There was a bit of static, a bit of muffled yelling, then silence. Izumi's face froze in horror. Before Marty knew what he was doing, he was running back down the halls. He had no idea where he was going, but that didn't bother him. He had to find Mr. Chen. What had happened? He heard an engine, along with several sets of running feet, and knew that the others were behind him. Izumi, he heard, was calling for Enrico and park security on her radio.
He must have been running through the random tunnels, the others just behind him, for several minutes before he finally found Mr. Chen. The man was lying on the ground, a small trickle of blood oozing from a bruised cut on his head. He was barely conscious, and groaning slightly.
"Mr. Chen!" Izumi rushed forward, kneeling next to him. From practically out of nowhere, a man and woman in park security uniforms ran up, with the man holding a first aid kit that was so big Marty wondered for a moment if they had a full hospital in there. Neither of them gave the characters a second glance. Apparently the business with the Charm was common knowledge at this point.
"¿Qué ha pasado? ¿Estás bien?" Red uttered when she saw Mr. Chen on the floor, her panic obvious. The man with the first aid kit took the older man's pulse, and they all saw the relief on his face.
"He'll be alright," the man, named Thomas, said. "We'll need to get him to a doctor; we've already called in one of the doctors from Guest Services."
"Daniels!" Mr. Chen suddenly opened his eyes and tried to sit up. The woman, named Fatima, pushed him back down, but he shot back up. He looked around, panic in his eyes, until he found Red and Marty.
"He ambushed me." The old man explained as Thomas gently applied antibiotics to his forehead. "I didn't know he was that strong. He must have heard my plan, when we split up in the tunnels. Must have...followed us there...to the tunnels..."
"Please lie down, sir." Izumi asked her manager. Fatima tried to get him to lie down. He sat back up again. Marty leaned forward, knowing that the man needed to tell him something.
"Daniels...he took it. He has it again."
Everyone was silent again. Marty almost fell backwards, and was caught by Jack. He couldn't believe it. After all that, everything they'd done, were they back to square one? Just like that?
Suddenly, Mr. Chen's radio crackled to life. "Hello, everyone."
No one breathed, but Nala growled. It was Daniels. Marty concluded that there was now one voice in the world that he hated more than any other.
"Rod Harry Daniels!" Thomas shouted into the radio. Most of them, even Jack and Nala, took a step back. Despite his gentle demeanor, the man had an incredibly deep voice.
"Admiring my handiwork? I thought old Somsak deserved a little makeover."
Moana's hands were in fists. Marty had no doubt that, had the man been standing there, the voyager would have knocked every tooth out of Daniels' head. At the moment, he didn't blame her.
Thomas started to speak into the radio, lowering his volume slightly. "Even if you have the Charm, you can't get out of the Park. You know that. Now you will return to the tunnels, give back what you've stolen, and surrender peacefully. Is that clear?"
"Oh shut up, Thomas." Daniels clearly didn't feel threatened. "You're forgetting who has the power, here. While I've accepted that the...friends I originally brought here won't willingly work with me–"
"They're not your friends!" Red yelled into the radio.
"You kidnapped us!" Moana shouted.
"You paralyzed me!" McQueen added.
Daniels simply waited for them to stop speaking before he continued. "Because of that, I realize that I'll need new attractions. And now that I have the Charm, there's nothing that can stop me from bringing back every character from the multiverse."
With that, the radio stopped transmitting.
