BAEK solbi had just finished unpacking the last box. she now officially lived alone away from her parents. both of her parents were business people who frequently left the country. instead of following them around she begged them to let her move out on her own. at first, solbi's parents refused because they couldn't imagine letting their thirteen year old daughter living alone. but solbi always had been very mature. she didn't cry or whine about it, instead she went apartment hunting. solbi knew that if she was able to find a nice place, with good neighbors, and a good school nearby, her parents might be convinced.

and convinced they were. after solbi introduced them to the cute apartment she found near jijon middle school next to the kind ham family (solbi never met the ham daughter but she assumed that the daughter was as nice too), her parents finally caved in. after a tearful (mostly from her dad) goodbye, solbi quickly settled into her new place.

at first it was lonely. she knew that the ham family had a daughter the same age as her, and next to the ham family, the ban family also had a daughter the same age. but poor solbi was not good at socializing with kids her age. so she didn't muster up the courage to knock on their doors. instead to quell her loneliness, she got the next best thing.

cats. two cats to be specific. miro, the epitome of an orange cat with one brain cell, and dal, a sophisticated tuxedo man. counting down to the days before her first day of middle school felt like forever. she lounged around all day and cuddled her cats. occasionally, auntie ham would drop off some side dishes for solbi to eat. auntie ham loved talking about her daughter. although solbi couldn't seem to remember the daughter's name at all. da something? maybe it was ba something...

finally, the time to start middle school was here. the night before the first day, solbi came up with a genius idea. for her middle school debut she wanted a fresh haircut. but because it was too late for any salon to be open at this time, and solbi didn't trust herself enough to cut her own hair, she decided to just cut her bangs.

what a horrible mistake. solbi didn't even think twice before snipping off the fronts of her hair. the moment she looked in the bathroom mirror she wanted to scream, cry, and throw up simultaneously. she cut her bangs way too short.

on the first day of middle school baek solbi would have to show up with the worst bangs in history.
