Kierra's POV
Life is like an ocean. Up and down. Up and down. Up and down. Flowing and fluid, always changing.
"Kierra!" My mother yelled. My startled breath broke the surface of the water of the cup I was zoned into. Not sure why. I turned to my mother with an annoyed look.
"What?" I said, she got the hint of annoyance it was blatantly obvious.
"You're not even ready, I told you hours ago that you had to make at least a small appearance in the square today. You're wearing sweatpants and a tank top. Seriously, you cannot be going out like that." I could tell my mother was already fed up with me.
It was only 11 am, I didn't have to be out there for another 3 hours. 2 pm. It's July 2. I am a straight A student and I do way to many royal studies for my own good. It drives me insane. I took a walk to my closet, full of dresses I've worn maybe once or things my mother and father hoped I would wear in the future. I picked out a corset, black with lace and a double ribbon to tie in the back. A red dress, floral lace on the front with no sleeves. Paired with combat boots. Close enough to what maybe mother walking asking for. I laughed to myself, this definitely wasn't what she was thinking but she can compromise. I put on some mascara and lip gloss, best that was happening. Ruffled my curled hair, looked in the mirror and shrugged. Good enough.
I closed my closet door and headed to the stairs to my left. The hallways was ridiculously long with and ungodly amount of stairs. I rode one of those scooters that you see in an elementary P.E. Class. My parents hated it, I didn't care. I had arrived at the stairs and rolled my scooter to the side. It made a thud against the wall with a small scuff.
I ran down the long amount of stairs thinking about how I hated being here. Firebend, the name of my parent's kingdom. They had some war 15 years ago with the neighbouring kingdom, not sure what it was about. My parents were greedy and I was 2. I'm 17 now. I saw my reflection in the railing of the stairs. My brown eyes, dark skin, and dark brown hair. I made it to the bottom and stood at the front doors leading to hell, I mean the people.
I took a breath and opened the door. The people cheered and I plastered a porcelain smile on my face, not looking a single person in the eye. I waved to the people, the small children beamed with excitement. They were probably thinking my life was all cupcakes and rainbows. I wish.
I took a left to exit the crowd. My feet started taking me to the forest that I was always forbade from going to. My vision blurred and suddenly I was at the crossing bridge. I took a risk, I crossed to the center just looking at the rushing river below me. I got lost in thought again. I wonder if the heir to Witherbury, the neighbouring kingdom, didn't like their life just as I didn't. My parents seemed to be determined to make my life living hell. Listening to the river flow beneath the bridge, I hear a rustling in the bushes. I look slightly to the left and saw a person. A girl, about my height with brown eyes and long black hair beautifully braided. We made brief eye contact. And here we began.
