A/N: I'm sorry if this is really bad, it's my first story I've ever written so the might be things that don't make sense, grammatical issues and misspelling. Any tips on how to make the story better or writing tips in general would be much appreciated ! (And if any of you want to know Yes I read MXTX books)
It was foggy outside. Aria layed her back down on the bus chair. Her neck hurt from looking down at her finals test, her back was stiff from sitting up straight as a pole. All she wanted to do was get home and crack open a can of soda.
"Well at least it's over," she thought with a quiet sigh of relief. She wished finals were an option not to mention the back-breaking pain her life is at the moment. But school was almost over and tonight she had a party to attend! As she stepped off of the bus she felt a strange presence like someone was watching her. She peeked a look over her shoulder to see a man in a dark trench coat and fedora. "If he's watching me he's not being very stealthy," Aria thought with not much worry as she stepped onto the stone cracked steps of her apartment.
As she walked into the tiny kitchen she saw a package. "This came for you at about 2'oclock."
Aria jumped, she whipped around only to see her friend Veronica
"H-how- wa-how did you get in here?"Aria stammered.
"Spare key in the loose brick," Veronica said with a raised eyebrow and the key dangling from her finger. Okay it was true it wasn't a very good spot but still, it was all she could find.
"Still it's creepy to just waltz into here," Aria said with a sigh
"Just open the package already!" Veronica urged throwing the keys onto the kitchen counter and sitting on the couch. Grabbing her pocket knife from her drawer she sighed and set the package on the coffee table. Sitting on the couch she lightly slit a cut on the masking tape and opened it. As the peanut packaging fell away it revealed the most beautiful dress .It was a shade of teal-green that had long sleeves, a low cut "v" neck and the bottom swept the floor and came with a gold braided belt. It's design was pleated but with a shine to it with gold flakes scattered along the fabric and the edges were laced with L.E.D fabric giving it a glow. At the bottom of the package there was a letter and a hairpin that matched the pearls on the dress along with a pair of pearl studded heels.
How did you know I liked pearls?"Aria questioned
"Why do you think it came from me?''Veronica answered with a light shrug of her shoulders. Aria saw that the letter had a wax stamp which was strange because that method of sealing had gone out of style a long time ago. She looked at Veronica and saw that she also looked confused.
"I... I didn't put that in there" Veronica said, throwing her hands in the air. Aria inspected the envelope for some time before tossing it aside.
"Well thanks for the beautiful dress," She said. She put down her party gown and ran over to Veronica to give her a hug
"Your the best friend anyone could have asked for"
"Didn't you already know that?" Veronica claimed. Aria started laughing. Veronica pulled away from the hug and looked at the clock "Wow 6 already I should go and get ready". She sauntered to the door and closing it she called back
"I'll be over in an hour, be ready!" Aria could hear the click of her boot as she went downstairs "Well no time to waste"Aria thought. She rushed to the bathroom and took a quick shower. Within about 10 minutes she was doing her makeup with a bit of mascara and eyeliner with a light nude tone eye shadow to top it off. Slipping into her dress she pulled her slightly wavy black hair into a bun and stabbed the hair pin through it "I have a bit of extra time"Aria concluded so she put some fake pearls in her bun.Putting on her heels she looked in the mirror her bright blue eyes stood out against her makeup. Her skin fit perfectly with the dresses color."Oh wait" She thought, she hurriedly went to the bathroom, came back out and stuffed something into her purse as she inwardly cursed the immune system. She heard knocking at the door, fast but carefully she reached to it and opened the peep hole and on the other side of the door was Veronica, her curly hair down and wearing a tan-white slip dress. It had one long side sleeve with only crimson red lipstick as her makeup. Aria unhooked the latch to find Veronica had her arms crossed holding a clutch
"Took you long enough" She said sarcastically "Ready to go?" Grabbing her light blue hand-held purse Aria said
"Just about." Together the two friends walked
to the school, into the campus, and they slipped into the cafeteria. The normal drab, boring, toxic presence was gone now it looked like a unicorn had swooped in and livened the place up.There was a giant purple and pastel pink banner that read in cursive
"We'll miss you seniors!" And there were balloons EVERYWHERE. Colors ranging from pastel blue to bright red. When she looked up she even saw an ocean reflecting into the sparkling night sky. Veronica gave her a quick glance but Aria caught it.
"What?" she said
"I might have suggested an ocean theme" Veronica admitted rubbing her neck (Veronica was the leader of the club that set up all the school events). Aria smiled, if her best friend would go to extreme heights to see her smile then she really was the best friend in the world. Veronica's stomach growled and she gave it a "Shush" look
"Go ahead," Aria said with a playful smirk. "I know you're dying to get to the food table." Veronica immediately bolted while yelling back,
"I'll bring you back some punch" Her tall figure disappeared into the wave of people. Now alone, she scanned the crowd. It seemed like the whole school was here! Everyone's dresses and suits were so shiny and glorious, her eyes hurt just looking at the crowd. She stepped outside of the cafeteria, her dress glowing softly
in the night, to the unwelcoming, sharp edge of the wind. It sliced across her face and made her arms numb. Suddenly she had that feeling of being watched again. She whipped around to find the same man from this afternoon. Now Aria was worried "Okay calm down" she told herself'' Maybe he's just a product of your imagination." She felt a hand on her shoulder, in fright she whipped around and almost slapped her friend square in the face.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry Veronica!"Aria said, lowering her hand
"Ok rule of friendship: You don't slap your FOOD BEARING friends, and I think that is a fact!" Veronica exclaimed.
"Sorry."
"Here's your punch." Veronica handed her a sparkling tinted green sea glass cup, filled halfway with a pastel pink liquid. As Veronica slipped back into the cafeteria, Aria looked back at the man, or where the man had been standing. In his place, stood a black cat with piercing yellow eyes. Knowing black cats are bad luck in a flow of her dress she hastily walked back into the cafeter class. She nudged Veronica's arm "I want to go back to my apartment now" Aria said shivering
"Why the party just getting started?" Veronica said
questioningly
"I-I just want to go home, can you call me an Uber, you can stay if you want. "Aria's head hung low
"Hey, If you're not staying, I'm going with you" Veronica said, taking Aria's hands in hers. Aria lifted her head and smiled weakly "She really is the best friend ever"Aria thought. Veronica walked outside and Aria could see her pull out her phone. Cold, although the heater in the cafeteria was at full blast, she went to one of the tables and sat down. She noticed her friend walking back into the cafeteria and scanning the crowd. Walking over to her table she said, "The driver told me he would be here in 10" Veronica said sliding into the chair next to her. Aria, absent minded, shook her head. She couldn't think of anything else but of how cold she was.
"Here" Veronica took off her leather jacket and put it on Aria's shoulders. About 5 minutes later they heard a car pull up to the cafeteria.
"Hey, cars here", Veronica said, shaking Aria back to earth. Moving through the crowd, they made it to the outside of the cafeteria and hopped into the car. The driver adjusted the rear-view mirror and Aria had to bite her tongue so hard she tasted blood to hold back a gasp.It was the man from earlier.
A/N : Thank you if you made it to the end of this chapter. I might not post for a while because I want to see if anyone actually reads my book and I'm busy with school. When I get time then I'll post chapter 2.
