The next morning, Marco came to pick her up and noticed she was not really alert.
"Dee, what's wrong?"
"Guess who had dinner at my house last night? Quinn Percy. Of all people"
"Wait why would he dine at your house? Is your stepbrother by any means?", he asked worried.
"Gods, no", Desiree said, horrified.
"One god wasn't enough?", Marco teased with the intention of making her laugh. And that was her reaction. Then she went back on serious mode and said, "We're next door neighbors and apparently our moms are the new best friends in town. Yay", she said with gloom.
Marco asked, puzzled, "I thought his father was a billionaire and he was to inherit tonnes of money?"
"Well, they're divorced and have joint custody"
I understand why he's so bitter, Desiree thought, poor Quinn.
"Dee, Dee! Hey where were you? You zoned out on me all of a sudden."
"I'm sorry, Marco. I was thinking about stuff."
"Kk. You're gonna wear my jersey to tonight's game, right?"
Desiree nodded absently and that was all Marco could get out of her.
The usual scene played out that morning but with a subtle twist. Quinn looked at her and maintained eye contact.
She was so lost in her bubble that she didn't see the person in front of her. They bumped into each other and their books flew pelle-melle.
"OMG, I'm so so sorry. I wasn't paying attention."
Desiree had never seen the girl before. She was very pretty with a smooth olive complexion, extremely dark waist length hair and was way taller than Desiree at about 5' 9"(Desiree was 5' 3")
"No, I'm the one to be sorry. I'm new here. Could you help me?"
"Of course. Let me see your timetable"
Desiree took said timetable and said, "We have the same timetable. I'll help you, okay?", Desiree asked.
The new girl nodded.
"I am Desiree Louise Laronde. I am half French, half American. And you are?"
The girl replied in her beautiful voice, "I am Meethi Suresh. Both my parents are Indians but they relocated here before my birth."
They went to class as Meethi was saying, "My best friend, Sharon is coming next week..."* * *
