Scattered 'cross my family line
I'm so good at telling lies
That came from my mother's side
Told a million to survive
Scattered 'cross my family line
God, I have my father's eyes
But my brother's when I cry
I can run but I can't hide
from my
family line.

It was his fifth year at Hogwarts when everything began to change.
It was September.
Sirius's reflection stared back at him, a shadow of what it had once been. He still had his square chin given to him by mother, and the blue eyes given to him by his father were still prominent. But his mother and father had given him more than genetic appearance this summer.
His fingers brushed the bruising on his cheek, he winced in pain. Fresh.
When he was younger he would methodically search his scars and lashings for some sort of sign that his parents truly did care for him. He knew better than to do that now. He didn't care. Really.

"Padfoot!"
The familiarity of the voice echoing across the platform filled Sirius with something he had not felt all summer.
James Potter  scooped into a tight hug, and then proceeded to punch him in the stomach.
"You didn't write! All summer you dickhead! I got more letters from Pete than from you and he can barely fucking write."
Sirius laughed, god had he missed this.
Before he could speak, he had to comply to a motherly pat down provided by James's mother; Euphomia.
Though he never liked to spare it any thought, Sirius found it hard not to envy James and his family. His mother who always treated Sirius like one of her own. A pure soul...
He didn't care.
They boarded the train, a flurry of excitement and longing. Excited to be home.
Once they had reached their usual carriage, James plonked himself down and began some Drabble about Lily Evans; a fellow fifth year whom he had been yearning over for some time.

"I really think that this is my year Padfoot, I'm quidditch captain for godrics sake and what girl doesn't want to fuck the quidditch captain!?" James said, a grin plastered upon his face.
He continued;
" I mean she's stunning int she, her skin looks so soft and.."

Sirius managed to tune him out, and his thoughts turned elsewhere. Although he knew he was in the safety of the carriage he couldn't help himself from retiring to the dark place where he had spent most of his summer. His mother, father, brother. That night. The wounds were fresh, he was finding it harder to forget this year, he was finding it harder to-

"Moony!" James exclaimed as he got up and pulled a much taller Remus Lupin into a bear hug.

Sirius looked up at him and they locked eyes. Those damn green eyes.

A/N - song lyrics at start of chapter totally inspired by the wonderful Mskingbean89, who wrote "All the young dudes" on AO3. Which you should totally read instead of this piece of crap!

I've never written anything before, so cut me some slack, but I'm excited to see where this goes!
