Gayoon worked furiously, her flushed face still lingering from earlier. However, when Ryujin dropped off a list of freshmen who hadn't yet submitted their updated student information, her mood immediately plummeted.
The sheer volume of names made her head spin. She let out an audible groan, muttering under her breath about inefficiency.
Donghyuck, who had been sitting silently across from her, couldn't help but smirk at her frustration. He observed her carefully, noting every shift in her demeanor.
Despite the bond allowing him to feel her stress, it didn't overwhelm him. It was as if his presence stabilized her chaotic emotions. Maybe that's how the bond worked—when one was frazzled, the other compensated with calm. Or perhaps it was just him being the more composed one at the moment.
Time slipped by, and before either of them realized it, the clock struck 6 p.m. Yet, Gayoon was still scribbling away at reports, utterly engrossed.
"Gayoon," Donghyuck called.
"Not now," she replied without looking up.
"Shin Gayoon," he repeated, his tone firmer.
"What—"
She stopped mid-sentence as his hand pressed down on the paper she was writing on, halting her pen.
"Let's go," he said simply.
"But—"
"What did I say earlier?" Donghyuck's voice carried a weight that made her pause.
Gayoon blinked, caught off guard by the commanding tone. Usually, she was the one who had the last word, the one who dictated the flow of conversations. But this? This was new.
She looked up at him, her lips slightly parted, words failing her.
Donghyuck held her gaze for a moment before his eyes flicked to the chaotic pile of papers on her desk. Without a word, he began organizing them into a neat stack, stapling the top pages and anchoring the pile with a paperweight.
"Get up now," he said as he adjusted the chair he'd been sitting on.
Gayoon stared at him, perplexed. "Why are you suddenly like this?"
Donghyuck quirked an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"You could be at a bar right now, flirting with everyone," she blurted, then immediately regretted it.
"I wanted to see you," he replied, his voice steady.
Gayoon's eyes widened. "What?"
"What? Because of this soulmate bond. What else?"
"Why... what's happening?"
Donghyuck leaned forward, his hands braced on the desk as he moved closer to her. "Vida, you don't know?"
Her breath hitched at the proximity.
"The bond is strengthening," he said, his voice dropping to a low murmur. "The need to see you—it's not just occasional anymore. It's constant."
