A shrill sound made her jump up.
"Where am I?"
She looked around, was this a hospital?
The door was yanked open and a doctor came rushing in with a nurse.
The doctor, whose name tag said her name was Dr. Linda Bergmann looked at the monitor next to the bed and sighed with relief:
"She's still alive."
"Of course I'm still alive!" said Nancy indignantly.
Neither Dr. Bergmann, nor the nurse responded.
"Hello, don't ignore me, I'm talking to you!"
Dr. Bergmann reached out to her, "Hands off!"
But her fingers just slid through her like she was air.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?"
"The poor thing." the nurse said, "She has her whole life ahead of her, it would be a shame if she died.
She sighed.
Nancy turned to see who she meant.
And there in the bed, lying there herself, pale and gaunt like a corpse.
But she was breathing, thin and weak.
But she was breathing.
"How can that be?"
