THE DAY YOU SAID GOODNIGHT BY SKY
October 24, 2030
"Are you ready na ba, love?"
"I'm ready, love."
"And... we're rolling."
Vaughn takes a deep sigh before saying, "Hi, I'm Vaughn Juno Valencia."
"Hi love, do you know what we're gonna talk about today?" Kairo asked as he was the interviewer.
"We're gonna talk about death and my chronic disease." Juno looked at the camera. When you look at his eyes, you can clearly see the hint of pain. It was painful to watch especially for Kairo.
Kairo looked at his husband with a smile as he spoke, but also with despair in his eyes.
"I'm gonna ask some questions and you're gonna answer them, alright? If you don't want to answer them then it's okay."
"Okay, love." Vaughn answered.
"When did you first found out that you were sick?"
"I was 32 years old. Me and Kairo were at Paris, we were on vacation hanggang sa bigla nalang nanlabo ang aking mga mata. I couldn't see anything at all, I became blind. Kairo brought me to the hospital and that was when I found out na I only had 5% of function on my kidneys. Luckily, I got a transplant and I was doing really well until unfortunately, it started rejecting and nothing is working anymore."
"How old are you now?"
"I'm 36." Said Vaughn.
"Are you dying?" Asked Kairo.
"Yes, a slow and painful death." Juno replied as he nodded. He has no choice but to accept and embrace the fact that he's gonna die soon.
"Were you angry when you found out?"
"A bit but what I mostly felt was devastation and my mind was full of questions like "why me?" I have a family, I still have dreams. I want to grow old with you, I don't wanna leave you yet."
"Do you feel like you're dying?"
"Sometimes, especially when I feel like my body's failing me na but my body's working hard to keep up with life."
"Do you feel like you're living differently now?"
"Yes, I don't take things for granted now. I started appreciating even the smallest things like waking up, getting to see you and the kids."
"Are you scared of dying?" Kairo's eyes started watering.
"No, I'm not afraid of dying. I'm more scared of the idea of leaving you and our kids. They aren't even 10 yet. I wanna be there for Zach and Kiera when they need me, I wanna be there for you if you need someone to hold onto but the person you're holding onto is falling apart. That's what I'm scared of." Juno wiped his tears.
"I wanna see our kids grow old, I want to be the one who picks them up from school and ask them how they've been, see what they've accomplished. I wanna watch them have a love of their own. I don't want to leave you all on your own."
"Have you done everything you wanted to do?"
"No, not yet." Vaughn shook his head in disagreement.
"There are things that I could only do after decades but sadly it's my time na. I only have a very little time on land. The things that I dreamt of since I was just a kid, I dreamt of a family, a lover, and growing old with my loved ones... but I can't even do that." Juno wiped his tears.
