*1 week later*
*Shiroi sat quietly by the pond, his eyes fixed on the fish swimming lazily in the water, the stillness of the night matching the heavy thoughts weighing on his mind. Mika spotted him from a distance, his familiar silhouette against the moonlit water. She had seen him here before, often lost in thought, and tonight was no different. A pang of worry tugged at her as she wondered why he was alone again.
Nervous but determined, Mika finally gathered the courage to approach. She walked over and sat beside him, her presence barely acknowledged as Shiroi kept his gaze fixed on the water. After a moment of silence, Mika spoke up, her voice hesitant but sincere.
"I feel bad for you, Shiroi," she began, her words flowing softly. "I know things have been tough, and I want to help you through it, whatever you're going through."
Shiroi, overwhelmed with sadness, stood abruptly and began walking away, clearly wanting to escape from the conversation.
Mika stood, too, rushing after him. "I know it's hard right now," she said, voice trembling. "But... your mom asked me to take care of you, no matter what. Even after she passed, I couldn’t stop thinking about her words. You don’t have your parents, and I know it’s not easy for you... especially with everything else going on." She paused, her chest tightening. "Shiroi, I’ve started to develop feelings for you, but I can’t stand to see you like this. I care about you."
As the words left her lips, tears began to spill down her face. The vulnerability in Mika’s voice struck Shiroi, halting him in his tracks. For the first time since they had met, he turned to face her, seeing her tears for the first time.
Moved by her sincerity, Shiroi stepped toward her, gently wiping away the tears on her cheeks. He asked softly, "Why do you care so much about me?"
Mika was silent for a moment, not knowing what to say. She simply replied, "Your mom saw something in me... something that made sense why you would care about me too."
Shiroi’s heart tightened as he looked at her, realizing the truth in her words. "I’m sorry," he said quietly. "I didn’t know how to show it... but I did care about you. I didn’t know how to express it with everything that’s happened."
Without another word, Shiroi leaned in and kissed her softly, the kiss deepening as Mika responded, feeling the overwhelming warmth of love and connection fill her. It was as if all the walls around them had come down, and in that moment, nothing else mattered. She had never felt this way before. No man had ever captured her attention the way Shiroi did, and she knew in that moment she wanted to be with him.
They pulled away after a minute, both breathless. Mika looked at him, her eyes full of desire and affection. "Are you ready to go home?" she asked, her voice low, a smile tugging at her lips.
Shiroi smiled in return, nodding. Without hesitation, he picked her up and gave her a piggyback ride, carrying her under the soft glow of the moon. The weight of the world felt lighter as they headed home together, side by side, as they embraced the new beginning between them.
