Late Night Talking

Shay was absent-mindedly scrolling on her phone with some music playing in the background when she heard a soft knock on her door. She looked at the time confused, it was pretty late at night and Calum had just left, so she was confused as to who was at her door. She got off her bed and walked towards the door and opened it, surprised to see Laur standing there.

"Hey." She said, smiling softly.

"I was wondering if I could maybe hang out with you tonight?" Laur asked, looking into her room to see that no one else was staying there.

A smile bloomed on Shay's face, "I'd love it if you'd hang here tonight." She replied, taking Laurs hand and pulling her inside.

"What did you want to do?" Shay asked as they laid down on the bed. Laur shrugged in response.

"I just feel like we've been out of sync lately." She said, playing with the strings on the hoodie she was wearing.

"Yeah, I guess we have." Shay said softly. "I really miss you, sometimes."

"I'm right here." Laur replied, turning around to look at her.

"I know you are. But even though we live together and you are my favorite person ever, I just feel like we don't see eachother lately." She replied, looking away from Laur.

"Yeah, I know. I guess we've both been a little preoccupied." Laur replied with a frown on her face.

"Well, let's fix that. What's been up with you lately?" Shay asked, laying on her side so she could look at her. A smile appeared on Laurs face and she also turned around to face her.

"I told Mike I'm in love with him." She told her friend. Shay immediately shot up, her eyes wide.

"You did what? And no one told me?" She said, sounding shocked. Laur laughed at her friend's response.

"I figured you'd hear it from Mike or Cal." She said.

"Calum doesn't tell me the things you tell him in confidence. That's not how that works." Shay replies.

"Yeah, I guess he wouldn't." Laur replied thoughtfully. "Anyways, so I told Mike I was in love with him and ran away. As usual. But when I came back he told me he was head over heels in love with me." A large smile bloomed on her face as she recalled the events.

"Obviously, that man has been in love with you ever since you first met." Shay chuckled.

Laur rolled her eyes, not quite believing the exclamation.

"Why did you snap at Cal earlier?" Shay asked.

"I was just really overwhelmed. I just feel like recently, there's always people here. I love our friends but sometimes I just want to be alone. Even with Mikey, I rarely get alone time with him." Laur rambled.

"I get it. He came back in a really good mood earlier, where did you two even go?" Shay asked.

"We just drove around, listened to music, and talked about life. I think we both really needed it." She said, giving Shay a soft smile.

"I'm glad you guys have each other." Shay replied, returning the smile.

"How are you and Cal doing?" She asked, attempting to change the subject.

"Really good. Like a scary good." Shay told her. Laur was thrilled that the two had finally seemed to solve their communication issues, although the way Shay was describing her feelings right now did worry her.

"Why is it scary?" Laur asked, her curiosity and concern getting the best of her.

"He could absolutely break my heart, Laur." She whispered. "I have never cared that much for a person."

"Have you considered that might be a good thing?" Laur replied.

"I have. I'm just not sure that it's good for me. Or for us." She said, adding the us as an afterthought. Although she didn't want to admit it, some of Nia's words had created some insecurities in her head.

"Is this about what Nia said the other night?" Laur asked her, sitting up on the bed.

"It's not really. Well, maybe it is. I'm just not good with this whole feelings thing, you know that." Shay mumbled, sitting up and laying her head on Laurs shoulder.

"Yeah, I know. You'll figure it out, though. And me, or Mike, are always here if you need help, you know that." She replied.

"Can we maybe just sit here for a while and not talk? I just need your presence right now if that's okay." Shay whispered.

"Whatever you need, babe." Laur replied, resting her head against Shay and closing her eyes.
