Super happy ending I swear 🤍

1991:

Y/n didn't think much when her parents asked her to go pick up some last minute thanksgiving groceries at the local supermarket.
Sure, she was tired and could've definitely used some rest after her trip back home, but she didn't mind grocery shopping.

Besides, that meant she could rightfully postpone her reunion with "the Hawkins crew" without making things up.

Even though, truth was, things had gotten awkward after she left for law school.

That's what was running through her mind while she was absentmindedly roaming through the shopping counters.

" Y/n"
She heard her name being called by a voice she could recognise as well as she could recognise her own, but she hadn't heard it for so long, she thought her mind was simply making it up.

"Y/n!"
The voice repeated again, this time more decisively.

She was sure she had heard it at this point, so she turned around and was immediately faced with her ex boyfriend, the member of the Hawkins crew she least wanted to see, Eddie Munson.

"Eddie!" She waved at him as he came closer.

"It's been so long." He told her, head half buried in her collarbone, rubbing her back as they hugged each other thightly, as if things had never happened and time had never passed.

"It sure has." She said back, sighing and closing her eyes, letting herself go in the hug and wanting to savour as much of it as she could.

But things had, indeed, happened and one year had gone by in the blink of an eye, her conscience quickly reminded her and gave her the urge to leave the hug.

"How are you? We have so much to catch up on! Do you have some spare time to grab a coffee?" Eddie smiled at Y/N widely, his eyes sparkling in a way they hadn't sparkled anymore in quite a lot of time.

"Er, I don't know... I'm kind of in a rush." She lied.

"No, yeah, sure, I definitely understand." The smile slowly faded from his face.

She couldn't help the pain she felt in her chest when she saw that, so she quickly changed her mind.
"You know what, I have plenty of time to see my parents, we can go grab a coffee right now, if you have time!"

His face lighted up again "Of course, I always have time for you." He simply added, like those words weren't holding an enormous meaning behind them.

So they went to the register to pay for what they had in their shopping charts- Eddie insisted he'd pay for her things too- and left together, walking to a cafè that was just a few blocks away.

Rain started pouring outside the minute they set their feet inside the coffee shop.

"Good old Hawkins, eh?" Eddie said when he saw her looking at the rain falling off the windows.

"Yeah, some things never change. I guess it's how things should be, considering it's thanksgiving, though." She answered, still looking at the pouring rain outside.

Eddie gently got the chair and gestured for her to sit on it.

"Still a gentleman, I see. Thanks." She smiled at him. He smiled back and ordered two cups of hot chocolate for both of them, remembering it was her favourite beverage in the winter.
