It had all started the day they got Sword Art Online. At first the experience had been amazing, an MMO that one can become completely immersed in, is any gamer's dream. But just mere hours after the game's release things start to go amiss.
Amaya and her twin brother Kohaku had been in vast fields outside the Town of Beginnings, practicing their techniques. They had been learning the fighting methods of the game against the wild boars roaming the area. That was until the two of them were suddenly teleported to the Town of Beginnings.
Amaya looked around her, it seemed as if every player in the game had been brought here. The sky turned into flashing red panels as scarlet fluid oozed out from between their cracks. The liquid came together to take the form of the Game Master.
"Attention players, I welcome you to my world." The voice of the Game Master resonated throughout the town center.
'Is this just some sort of welcome ceremony?' Amaya thought to herself.
"I am sure by now you have noticed the logout button is missing from the menu, this is not a defect of any kind, this is what Sword Art Online was meant to be...You are all stuck here until someone clears the game, and if your avatar dies in the game... Your nervegear will simultaneously send a microwave into your skull, destroying your brain."
Nervous mumbles and whispers were heard throughout the center as the people all stared with wide eyes.
"I shall leave you all with a parting gift, you can find it in your inventory." That was the last thing the game master said before disappearing, the sky then turned back to it's original sunset colors.
Amaya,Kohaku and all the surrounding players opened their inventories to see a new item had appeared in their inventories, a mirror.
Equipping the item Amaya's eyes widened at the fact that her reflection was no longer her avatar, but instead her actual appearence. She looked over to her brother, who along with all the other players, had also reverted into their actual appearances.
Amaya quickly gripped his wrist and started to pull him away from the crowd, and out of town. "Where are we going nee-chan?" Kohaku said starting to match his twin's rushed pace.
"We're going on ahead to the next town, so we can get the better items before the other people." She replied keeping her gaze focused on the road ahead of them.
'I promise brother... I will get you out of here alive.'
