He Can't Love You

Like I Love You

A New York Love Affair

By Lady J

Chapter 1

Shonda

What am I stressing for? I've been doing this for years. I got this.

Shonda sat in her oversized office chair looking out on the busy streets of New York from her huge office window. She had just been named the Chief Executive of the company she had slaved her ass off for over twenty years for. She started working for the company right after she graduated from Queensborough Community College. Although she didn't have the proper education when she applied, she had started as an assist to the last Executive and over the years, she'd climbed her way to the top. At this moment, Shonda was beyond proud of herself. For a kid that came from a broken home with no mother or father around, she had finally made it.

"Come in," Shonda said, turning around in her chair.

"Good morning, Mrs. Wright. Here are the files you requested, and your coffee just like you like it." Her young bubbly assistant set the thick stack of file folders and the steaming hot cup of coffee on her desk.

"Thank you, Tiana."

"You're welcome. You look amazing today, by the way." Tiana complimented her boss.

Shonda was a stunning woman. She was five feet, four inches tall with the body of a goddess. Her mocha colored skin and honey colored eyes made her look more unique. Whenever Shonda graced a room with presence, she would always turn heads. She dressed classy and there was no need for make-up; her natural beauty was just enough. At age thirty-nine, she didn't look a day over twenty-one.

She sat at her desk reading through the files as she sipped her coffee. Her freshly manicured nails tapped the desktop lightly as she scanned though the paper work with ease. Smart, and naturally ambitious, she could run this place with her eyes closed.

"Mrs. Wright, Mr. Wright is here to see you." Tiana's voice floated through the intercom speaker on the wall.

"Send him in," Shonda instructed her assistant. "Hello sweetheart." She smiled with glee at the sight of her husband. "What are you doing here?"

"You left the house in such a hurry this morning you didn't get a chance to eat anything. So after I dropped the kids off at school, I stopped and picked you up something to eat."

Shonda and her husband of twelve years, Rob, had been close friends since college. Over the years, their relationship had blossomed into a beautiful marriage. Twelve years ago when he asked her to become his life partner, he promised that he would always treat her like the queen that she is until the day they die. Rob has always lived up to his word, but for Shonda, lately she had been feeling as though something in their marriage was missing.

Shonda loved Rob deeply, but the romance and excitement they once shared was slowly starting to fade away. For years, Rob had been Shonda's rock, her everything, and he was truly a great man and father to their four children. They lived in a lovely home and both had wonderful careers. Rob was the best prosecutor in the city of New York, and he was well respected. He was just as handsome as the men on the cover of a magazine, and he attracted attention from women everywhere he went. Together, they were the perfect couple.
