ONE|SHE'S BACK
The roar of an engine echoed around the busy car park, bored onlookers watching as a blue Camaro sped through the crowds of students, an almost sense of déjà vu.
Bernadette Harrington pushed her sunglasses further up her nose, gripping the steering wheel with one hand as a smirk played on her lips. She loved the attention her car brought her, the many months of fixing it up finally paying off.
Her leather boots hit the paved car park, leaves crunching beneath her as she stepped out of the car. She glanced around at her old high school, lighting the cigarette between her lips as she tried to forget the last year she had spent in the place.
She let her feet lead her around the school, wandering through the small forest behind the school as a cloud of grey trailed behind her. The deadly smirk playing on her lips growing as she spotted a familiar raven haired boy talking to someone.
"Still haven't graduated?" Birdie stepped out from behind a tree, waiting till the student had left him alone. "Wow, Edward Munson, I'm impressed."
"Well, well, if it isn't the Bernadette Harrington." Eddie Munson turned around to greet the girl, grinning when he spotted the dark haired girl. "I heard you had moved to sunny California."
"I'm back for Spring Break." She shrugged, sitting across from him on the old bench with a large grin. "So I had to find my favourite dealer to celebrate being back in this quiet town."
"Here, on the house." He reached into his metal lunch box and pulled out a blunt, passing it to her. "To celebrate your return. Hawkins High hasn't been the same without its Queen Bee."
"Eddie Munson you are after my heart." Her smile was contagious, the girl happily placing the blunt between her lips. He lit the end for her before removing his coat, getting comfortable as she handed him back the lit blunt.
"And you are after mine." He breathed in the narcotics, placing a hand over his heart. A thick haze quickly surrounded them, eyes never leaving each other as they shared the blunt.
"Hellfire Club?" Birdie read aloud the words on his shirt, trying to remember all the clubs at Hawkins High and which one Hellfire was.
"Ah, it's just D&D."
"You play D&D? My friend was supposed to teach me how to play D&D." Her sudden excitement was greeted with a surprised look. "I even made a character in preparation but then shit hit the fan and I ran away to sunny California."
"You want to play D&D?" Eddie dramatically pretended to pull out his heart and offer it to her. "Here, just take it." He excitedly grinned at her, the pair sharing a genuine look of happiness. "I can teach you."
"Do I get to join the Hellfire Club?" Birdie teased him, leaning forwards with a childish grin. "Can I have my own t-shirt?"
"You can have mine." His playful wink made her lips turn into a smirk, hazel eyes staring deep into his amber ones.
"How has Hawkins High been since it's Queen left?" She pushed her long brown locks away from her face, playing with her fingers nervously as all previous worries began to settle back in her mind. "Basketball team still thinking they are better than everyone else?"
"Always." He chuckled at her truthful statement. "But are you allowed to say that? You did spend years shaking your little pom poms."
"I would pay to see you re-enact what you think cheerleading is again." She laughed at his dramatic gestures, his concentrated facial expression her favourite part. "I think I spent more time watching basketball practice then actually watching games. My brother and Billy constantly wanted me around, mostly to use me against each other."
"I forget about the other Harrington sibling." He noticed the way her body stilled when Billy's name slipped past her lips, a sudden sad look in her once joyful eyes. He remembered the terror of Billy Hargrove, the boy who was able to swoop the cold-hearted Queen Bee off her feet before tragically dying at the StarCourt Mall.
"Yeah, Steve is easy to forget." Birdie chuckled quietly, knowing she had to go find her brother after this. "He's busy babysitting nowadays."
"Do you remember Lucy Hillren?" Eddie relaxed against the table, suddenly feeling comfort talking to the apparent cold-hearted girl. "She's pregnant now."
"Who's the father?" She leaned across the table in shock, a hand over her mouth as the uncontrollable laughter kicked in from the weed. "Shit, I forgot how good this stuff is."
"I only supply the best." He winked, the gesture calming Birdie once more as a genuine smile played on her lips. "Eric Forson knocked her up."
"Wasn't he dating Hannah Till?" Her eyes widened even further, suddenly understanding why he wanted to share the juicy gossip. "Oh, the poor girl. I'm disappointed I didn't hear this gossip from Val and Lil's."
"Eddie "the freak" Munson, supplier of drugs and gossip." He laughed, leaning in closer across the table, his free hand reached out and pushed the stray hairs behind her ear.
"You're not a freak." Bernadette froze as she heard the school bell echo through the woods, suddenly realising the time. "Shit, I have to get going." She began to stand up from the bench. "Oh, I actually came to see if you had anything stronger?"
"How strong?"
"Strong enough to forget why I left this town." She bit her lip nervously, wanting to go back to the calm conversation and getting lost in his warm pools of amber.
"I haven't got anything on me." Eddie looked through his metal lunchbox quickly, locking it as he stood up. "You can come to my trailer later and I can grab you something."
"Thank you." Birdie smiled at him, never thinking she would be spending her first day back in Hawkins with Eddie Munson.
