A cardinal symbolizes devotion.

The human woke up. How long had she been out for? Her head hurt like hell.
She heard small chirps and quiet pecking from below. It was one of the palismen she'd met from early on in the day, a red cardinal. "Huh? Little rascal?" She mumbled as she opened her eyes.

The cardinal pecked at the ropes that restrained her, eventually breaking the rope and setting her free.

"Oh! Thank you." The human smiled at the bird, "Ohf, my head." She groaned.

The bird chirped, alerting the human to the staff that lied on the ground in front of her. The Golden Guard's staff.

The human took the staff and noticed an obscured lump of white.

A little further from the staff laid a girl wrapped in her white cloak. It was the Silver Scout. She didn't look much older than the human, maybe one or two years older. The girl was unconscious and maskless.

As the human approached the girl, an orange fox jumped out and bared its teeth.

The cardinal began chirping and flapping its wings,

"Are you the Silver Scout's palisman?" The human asked, "It's okay, I won't hurt her. I promise."

The fox backed away, allowing the human to pick the Silver Scout up and carry her unconscious body. The fox followed close behind.

The human moved to leave when she heard groaning coming from close by. It was the Golden Guard. He laid on the ground, unconscious as well, just a few feet from her.

"Kikimora, ma'am." A woman said in the distance, drawing the human's attention, "We've found the palismen. They seem rattled, but unharmed." The human watched the scout captain talk with Kikimora.

"Very good, Captain. Return to the city and prepare them for travel." The short demon instructed.

"Is it true, ma'am? Are the Golden Guard and Silver Scout really..."

"This is all that remains." Kikimora said, holding up the silver and golden masks. "Such a horrible accident. Probably caused by the incompetent pilot."

The captain stood stunned, "I'll.. alert the castle." She said gravely before turning to her scouts, "Scouts! To Latissa!"

Once everyone had left, Kikimora brought out a whistle, summoning the dark teal dragon that had attacked the ship.

It flew down to her, allowing her to pet it. "Excellent work, my pet. Now. Find the rest of them and have yourself a couple of nice little snacks."

The Human gasped and looked to the Golden Guard. The red cardinal chirped and the orange fox squeaked.

"Don't worry. I won't leave him." The human said to the palismen. The cardinal flew onto the human's right shoulder to use as a perch.

The human walked over to the Golden Guard wearily, holding both his partner and his staff.

The human looked at the maskless Golden Guard, "This is the Golden Guard? It looks like he and the Silver Scout could be students at Hexside.."

The girl set his partner down and leaned in close to his face. The fox climbed onto the human's vacant shoulder.

"WAKE UP!" She yelled and she slapped him across the face.

The Golden Guard shot up immediately, "AGH! What? You!" He yelled angrily.

"Shh!" The human slapped a hand over his mouth to shut him up, "Listen. You are a bad person, and I do not like you. But, Kikimora is trying to kill you and your partner and unfortunately, I'm too nice to let that happen."
