"Prom is in 15 days Alli! You need to start asking some people if they want to go!" Says mom. "Mom a girl never ask a boy if they want to go to prom. If the girl ask they just sound needy. Plus they go with pretty girls." "Alli you are beautiful. You always have been. Now grab your lunch and get to school."
I quickly grab my lunch and I get in my car. I drive to school listening to the same music i've listened to all 4 years of high school. Then I see the same thing I've seen since middle school. Myles Smith and Emma Jade making out in the parking lot before school. "Gross." I say. It's like there isn't any room in their car to do that. I always wait 7 minutes to get out of my car to wait for someone. Lexi Anderson. My best friend since 6th grade. We've came to conclusion that this school sucks so we walk the halls together.
"Did you finally get a date?" Lexi ask
"Ugh. No." I say disappointingly
"Alli! You have to start asking people. I know you're a big fan of Twilight but these boys aren't Edward Cullen. They can't see what you're thinking."
"You know, You and my mom would be great friends." I say sarcastically.
As the first bell rings we both walk to class together. I sit in the very back where i've always sat all 4 years of High School.
History has to be the most boring class ever. I personally don't want to hear about history at 8:25 Am.
"Alli." Myles whispers
I look at him and then look around. I point at myself "Me?" I say.
"Yes." he answers "You. Meet me in the old gym after the bell rings. I want to talk to you." He says.
I don't even answer. I just look shocked.

When the bell rings I slowly walk to the old gym. No one uses the old gym anymore. I quietly walk in to see Myles sitting there shaking fast. I haven't saw him do that since we had to take a multiplication quiz in 1 minute in Fourth grade. Myles was never good at math.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"Me? Yes. Oh fine. I actually wanted to talk to you about the prom." He says while still shaking.
"What? I'm not interested in going with any of your friends Myles." I insisted.
"No. Actually. I was going to ask if you wanted to go with me?"
When he asked me that question I think I stopped breathing. Why would a popular guy who hasn't talked to me in years and has a girlfriend wanting to go to prom with me?
"Umm. Is my mom paying you to do this?" I asked not joking. He took it as a joke.
"Ha no. Just let me explain Alli.
"Yes. Please. Explain. I would love to know why the boy who was my best friend, who's stopped talking to me, who also has a girlfriend wants to go to prom with me."
"Alli. Just listen. My girl friend will be out of town to go visit a college. She asked me to find another date. And you were the only person I know who won't go insane if I take you." He says.
We sit there in silence for a few seconds when finally I say something.
"I'll think about it."
"I'll pay for your dress, shoes, makeup, hair, anything you need Alli. Just please." He begs.
"Can you come over today? I really don't want to talk about this here Myles. And my mom would be delighted to see you. I ask.
"Sure thing. I'll be there.

When the bell rings for lunch I run over to Lexi.
"Guess who asked me to the dance" I yell quietly.
"WHO?" She ask
"Myles Smith"
"What?" she questions. "Have you took your medicine today Alli? He has a girlfriend that can't be right." Lexi says
"Okay yes, but he said she will be out of town that week for a college thing and he needs a date. I told him he could come over today to and we could talk about it." I explain
"So the most popular kid in school ask you out and you didn't say yes on the spot?" She questions.
"Lexi. You have to understand. This kid is someone who hurt my 12 year old heart. I'm not sure what I want to do yet. "
"Okay ,Okay" Lexi says. "But I want to hear everything afterwards. She says. "Yes ma'am." I say.

Going home is always peaceful. I always look forward to flopping on my bed and taking a nap. But today I got in my car and my head was rushing with thoughts. As soon as I got home I ran upstairs and cleaned my room. I hid my childhood book I look through everyday along with my stuffed animal. I run downstairs and eat an afternoon snack.
"Woah, Woah, Woah. What's the rush Alli. You're going to choke if you don't slow down." Mom says. I run over to the sink and wash my plate along with my cup. "Mom." I say. "I need to tell you something."
"Sure sweetie, anything. Did you have sex? Are you pregnant? Did you get drunk? Did you smoke? Did yo-" She rushes through to ask. "MOM" I say loudly to stop her. "I'm fine. And it's neither of those. Do you remember Myles Smith? My childhood best friend?" I ask. "Well sure baby! How could I forget. Did he do something to you?" Mom ask. "Well actually" I sigh and take a deep breath. "He asked me to go to prom with him." I spit out. "What did you say?" Ask mom. "I didn't know what to say. So I just invited him over to talk to him about it." I say. "That's alright sugar" Says mom" "How about I start making that apple pie he always liked to give him a warm welcome?" Mom states. "I think he would like that Mom.
