Forbidden Love | Shrek X Reader

Chapter 1: Moving Day

The wagon bumps along the road and you grab the bags behind you to keep them from falling. Unlike many people moving to the area, you are not moving to the Kingdom of Far Far Away. Instead you are moving to a swamp, which, from what you've heard, is only home to an ogre and a strange talking animal. 

They should've specified more.

 The horses slow down as you reach the entrance to a forest. You hop out of the wagon and grab a few bags, which you proceed to put on your back and front. 

I must look like a fool.

 You grab the other two bags, which you sling around your arms, and trudge into the swamp. As you get closer to your new home you nearly trip over some fuzzy... creature. It's quite hard to see with bags all over your body. "Oh my!" The creature exclaims.

 "Good god-" You nearly fall as you stumble backwards, finally looking at the creature that is staring at you. 

"You must've just moved here. I'm Donkey. I would show you around but Shrek is waiting for me." He says. 

"Oh, okay. I'm Y/N." You say as Donkey walks into the forest. "Did he hear me?" You mutter as he trots through the mud.

Shrek must be the ogre I was told about. He's probably just as strange looking as this "Donkey" fellow. You think to yourself as you walk towards your hut, which looks brand new, as it seems to have been built out of freshly-cut branches. 

The inside is small, but it can easily be made into a nice place. You drag your bags to a wall and sit down on the small bed. You sigh. It's probably gonna take forever to actually make it look nice. As you sit on the bed and think about how the hut would look, you hear a voice from earlier. It's Donkey. 

"You need help moving in?" He asks. 

"Yeah-" 

"Shrek can help with that. If you see him you can tell him to stop by, he's strong." Donkey says. He excuses himself and trots out into the forest.

I guess I should look for him so he can help me. It's only me and him in this swamp, besides Donkey of course, and an ogre can't be very hard to spot. You think as you walk into the forest.

 You hear singing coming from a small spot behind a tree. As you approach the source of the sounds, you realise that it's Shrek, who also happens to be taking a shower. A leaf crunches beneath your foot as you back up, and he spins around to look at you. He screams and you feel your face get hot. Even though you know you should stop staring, you can't seem to look away. But it's then that you realise he's staring at you too. 

"I'm so sorry." You say as you turn around.

 "Wait!" He shouts. You gasp quietly. "Did you just move here? I've heard there was gonna be a new person here." 

You turn around and see that he wasn't covering himself. Your heart skips a beat. You look away and pretend you're looking at a bird. "Um... y-yeah..." You reply. He wraps a towel around his waist and steps closer to you.

"Around here you aren't able to take your "fancy-like" showers. I'm assuming you're not from a swamp?" He winks.

Is he flirting?  You think as you try to steady your heart rate. "Yeah, is there any way to shower without using... mud?" You hesitantly ask.

"Not around here, no. Unless you move into the kingdom. Over there they boast about their clean water. It isn't any different with mud." He answers confidently, gesturing to the mud.

You'd feel bad for correcting him so you nod and tell him that you need help unpacking everything.

As you turn around to leave you hear him shout again. "Wait! Who are you?"

"I'm Y/N." You say.

"I'm Shrek, and you've seen Donkey already?" He asks.

"Yeah, I did."

He tells you that he needs to get dressed so you go back to your hut and wait for him.

A few minutes later you see him wearing a white tunic with a brown vest, brown pants and dark boots. You feel ashamed to you wish he wasn't wearing it.

He helps you, and later that night you think about him.
