Overcoming fears

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself

Julie's POV

     Nate had always been a mystery for me. The way he acted, why he didn't let anyone in. How his walls were tall and strong for nobody to enter. Why he acted the way he did. His secrets. His family. His friends. His past life.

          Nate must be thinking now that I know about his past, I wish I didn't. But I feel like knowing about his past, his pain led us one step closer to each other. I am happy that I was close enough to him and that I was trusted that much to know this. I know he now feels a bit relief now that he got it out of his chest. For a second there I also wanted to reveal all my secrets to him but I couldn't I was afraid of what he would think of me. Maybe then was not the time.

        Knowing about his past made me want to care for him even more, want to protect him from all the thoughts that would destroy him and be with him everytime.

         His descision to take part in the talent show made myself proud of him. He was going to overcome his fear, breakfree from the past and I will support him.

             Today was a new day today he was not going to tutor me but me and Reid were going to help him for the audition and win that show. Only me and Reid knew, it was a surprise for rest of the gang. After a rather long day of school where I spent all the periods staring at the clock, it was now time for the special practice.

       Nate came into the room with a nervous look on his face.Reid escorted him to the pretend stage that we made. He held his guitar and sat on the chair.

"Okay, so what do we do with this emerging talent that is our freind Nate?" asked Reid.

" First, he has a beautiful and soothing voice so he can sing some sad or love songs maybe? , second he can write such phenomenal songs so why let them go to waste? why not make him sing one of his own song?" I said thoughtfully.

  " What a great idea Julie." Reid exclaimed hugging me while Nate sat there uncomfortably.

     " Okay okay. So lets get started." I said freeing myself from Reid's grip. " Nate I'm sure you've got a lot of original songs up you're sleeve but I was totally swayed by the song you sang at the hangout, it was very beautiful I'm sure you'll be able to touch a lot of hearts with it so you can perform it at the final round and we'll see the other songs you've got and choose one and help you with it for the audition."

    So we got started with a flustered Nate trying to sing but afraid to touch the strings of his guitar that remind him of his past. It broke myself to see what he was doing now that  I knew what was in his heart and I was going to help him through it.

       A week went by with us practicing every evening and I could see the fear slowly dissapearing of him. Tomorrow is the audition and Nate still refuses to tell me the song he is going to perform. But I have no doubt whatever he sings will be flawless.

         A new day, a new page, and now a new change. I couldnot sleep properly yesterday because of the excitement and anticipation of today. I got up got ready as I threw on a white lacy vest, pair of jeans shorts ,vans and plaited my hair.

Today Nate and Reid were coming to take me. Through the whole ride Reid and me were imagining all the things that might happen while trying to calm Nate's nerves down at the same time.

        We finally reached the school and the gang was waiting for Nate and each of them gave Nate a prep talk but Kate was the funniest.

     " If you happen to be famous by chance because of this then, twin ( yes she calls him that) don't forget to use protection." She said keeping her hands on his shoulder with a serious look.
