It was a warm and sunny day, the air was stuffy and you were in a bad mood.
Ever since the traveler showed up you were uninteresting and "ordinary", even tho you were anything but that.
Your abilities were outstanding and better than anyone's would ever be, but no matter what time or what place...The traveler would still outshine you, for just walking by and greeting someone.
It was the end of your patrol shift, you walked to your house in the towns center, you put your weapon down on a table and started to clean the blood of treasure hoarders, monsters and even boars of it. You had your windows opened, it was quiet till you heard commotion and scared kids crying. You didn't think and stormed outside with your blade, it was still wet from cleaning it. You pushed yourself through the crowd as they sighed in annoyance "WHERES THE TRAVELLER?" "Y/N WONT TAKE THIS ALONE" "Y/N ISNT STRONG ENOUGH" The audacity some had, you never failed all those years so why would you fail now? Because someone "stronger" was there? Was that holding you back from your full potential as a knight? No. You saw what the commotion was about, a few fatui agents raiding the Townsquare. Easy for you ofcourse, your swords flames made the agents look like sore losers, just as the traveler arrived you finished your work. The traveler and paimon looked stunned, even they underestimated you, "Traveler! Y/N makes you look like a snooze!" Paimon exclaimed. You turned to them and left the town, no one thought of thanking you, not even a small cheer.
You took a walk to windrise, even the Hilichurls there would pity you at this point. You bowed on one knee infront of the statue of Barbatos with your sword. You looked up at the statue with pure hope in your Archon, "Barbatos, I don't think I'm respected the way I used to." You felt a trail of wind gliding past you. "I'd like a sign of respect, Is that too much to ask for?" Another wind trail traced your cheeks as you got up and looked at the huge tree, it just dwelled over with freedom and hope, maybe it was time for some days off?

"Ah! Y/N you came in the right moment!" grand Master Varka spoke. You looked confused, he stood up and sighed. "I'm sorry you have to hear this, right after your heroic act today...wich I am thankful for." You felt your stomach twist around, "But still the citizens just aren't happy with two honorary knights. You'll be freed from work activity for a while, not forever ofcourse...we couldn't afford the loss forever." He looked disappointed but his citizens wishes were important to him, your eyes widened as all your hopes crushed into a dark veil spreading through your body in that moment. "You are truly a miracle Y/N, and could still be a guard and work as a librarian! Oh wait we have Lisa." You gasped at the statement he just made. "You-!" You cut yourself off before you were gonna attack him out of anger. "You are replacing me with a stranger! Not like I help defeat Stormterror and everything else." Varka looked at you sadly "son, it's what the citizens wanted..." that stupid nickname, how he called you "his son". "Don't." You raised a hand to shut him up and sighed. "I respect the citizens, so I'll respect their decision. Don't underestimate me tho..." you mumbled the last bit. Varka sighed as he watched you leave his office, Jean walked past you and gave you a look of pity "I tried to stop him...I'm so sorry Y/N." She spoke. You smiled at her warmly "Don't blame yourself Jean. He said It won't be forever..." Jean nodded and you turned away and walked to the exit, the traveler and Paimon walked towards you "You pulled a good show off today!" They said and smiled at you, you nodded and thanked them trying to force another smile through your anger. "Mhm! Maybe Paimon should stay with you instead!" Paimon joked, you forced a chuckle, said goodbye, and left.
You walked to the city gates as all the eyes were laid on you and the whispers were heard all across town. Only a few people would ask what was going on, but you shook it off and left the town. You had a bag with clothes with you, you just couldn't stay another minute in the town, you didn't have anything important at home anyways. You strolled around in nowhere. Your goal was your parents place in Liyue, who you moved away from to fulfill your dream as a knight in mondstadt.

After 2 days of walking in the rain you had made it, last Time you saw your parents you proudly told them you fulfilled your dream and got even further, now you'd tell them you were at the start once again. You trembled as you knocked on the wooden door, your mother smiled as she saw you smiling at her awkwardly, she quickly sensed something was wrong tho. She pulled you inside and hugged you. "What brings here so late honey?" She asked worried "just...just taking a stroll..." She shook her head "You look so sad and your eyes are teared up..." she moved your hair out of your face and ran her hand softly down your cheek. You didn't even notice your emotional state till she pointed it out. "They didn't want me anymore...they said the citizens don't want me now that there's a new Honorary Knight...'' a few tears ran down your cheeks and onto your mother's hand as realization hit you, you were no longer needed and not good enough.
Your mother hugged you, "I'm so sorry my dear, they will realize their mistakes sooner of later..." she stroked your back as you cried all the stuffed up emotions from the last few days out. "Sit down in the living room, your dad will be home soon too, I will make you some tea and something to eat." You smiled and went to the living room, you leaned back on the sofa and tried calm down. Your mom came back with tea and food, you ate as you told your mom the events of the last few days. She felt her heart break as she saw her all so happy son breaking down infront of her.
"You could try out for the Millelith? Someone like you would really help them! Do some commissions and you're in!" She cheered, you nodded. "And at the rite of descension you could make a wish to Rex lapis! He will listen to you!" She put her hands together. "Your right, but I think I'm heading to bed now...thank you mom, love you..." She smiled as she watched you go upstairs. "Love you too Y/N."
