"Don't say that" Eden said, barely above a whisper. Tears had gathered in her eyes and hands held close to her lap. "Don't say that to me.."
Harry looked closely at the girl in front of him. He watched as the love of his life grew from a once hollow shell of a girl, to a now cold, and scared shell of a woman. He didn't know where he went wrong. Maybe it was his career. After all, she never cared for his choice of work. All Eden wanted was to live a simple life, to never be in the eyes of the public for too long, but she put up with the press always taking Harry's attention. Though he'd never admit it, he loved her for that. For trying her best.
"Eden, I mean what I said-'' Harry had begun, but when he caught a glimpse of his lover's tear stained cheeks, he'd stop.
"I know what you meant Harry." Eden said "You said you didn't love me. That I was worthless-"
Harry stood up from his seat "I never said you were worthless." Eden looked up at him, tears still dripping from her chin "I don't think you're worthless Eden. It's just..I can't love a woman who wants such a simple life. I am not a simple man, so why would I try to continue a relationship with you?"
"Because you said you love me"
He shook his head and sighed "I said I loved you. Loved as in past tense." He bent down to her level "You do know what Past tense means, don't you dear?"
Eden stood up, almost knocking Harry from his position "I can't believe you. How many years did you know I was just a pawn. That I was just someone you used when you were horny, or when you needed a familiar face. You just told me today that you love me. So, tell me Harry, how long were you telling this lie."
"Four years," he said. He stood up and tried to caress her face, but she gently pushed his hands away from her.
"Why'd you stay.."
He sat back down at the table "because I was hoping I could learn to love you."
"Learn to love me?! The hell does that mean Harry!" Eden began to cry harder "This isn't just something you learn to do after four fucking years!"
"It wasn't supposed to end this way'' Harry said, clearly trying to stay composed "I wanted to love you, I tried so hard, but I just couldn't. I wanted to make you my wife, to make you my world, to allow someone who did care, into my life. I wanted nothing more than that Eden."
She sat back down. Harry reached for her hand but she kept him distant ''Thank you, for allowing me to come into your life. I hope I did change it, maybe set a goal for future lovers, but promise me Harry. Don't do this to another one."
He nodded "I promise. I just know maybe you did teach me a thing or two" he said trying to make their parting less hard, for the both of them.
"I don't expect you to know my pain. I don't wish my pain upon you, or anyone." She whispered, her voice cracked. Harry looked out the window and watched as Eden left. Her reflection soon disappeared, then her car. He truly never wanted things to end this way, but he couldn't keep hurting her. He couldn't keep hurting his Eden.
It's been years since their departure, and Eden had no desire to see Harry again, that was until she saw him in the news for something new, and unexpected. Something the complete opposite of Harry Walter. When she thinks of Harry, she sees stubborn asshole who has too much time and money on his hands. Maybe women don't see him that way, but that's probably because they didn't see Harry grow up. She had wasted four years on a man who claimed to have never loved her. She was sixteen when they were introduced to him. Harry was 19, far too old for her, but it was love, or so she claimed. She loved him, and she wasn't going to allow him to slip through her fingers. After all, she wanted his love.
