Chapter 1:

~Aiden~

The world fell into anarchy. Third world countries remained relatively the same. Education was still provided to those that bothered to show up. Some communities were completely destroyed while others had tied enough knots.

With an empty expression, I dared to look out my bedroom window. My city was in shambles. The libraries and schools were intact, but many stores were ransacked daily. Somehow, people continued to ship things. A gasp escaped me, and I ducked down quickly.

Someone saw me.

My mind spun in a thousand ways. In my chest, my heart bashed itself against my bones. I wasn't safe. As I struggled to cope, I searched for an exit. Before I knew it, I got to my feet and walked out the door. While i didn't enjoy leaving the old apartment, I knew i needed to exit the building.

Just as I approached the double doors, a young man walked in. He wore a black mask so his face was a mystery. I didn't know what to think when he stopped right in front of me. Unfortunately, I was frozen in place. My limbs refused to respond.

The young man looked me up and down. In my petrified state, he grabbed ahold of my wrist and dragged me out of the building. Despite what I wanted to do, I allowed myself to be tugged to the dusty black van. As soon as he was trying to shove me into the damn vehicle, I finally started protesting. Although I broke loose from his grasp on my wrist, my feet slipped out from under me. Before I could get up, a rag was pressed to my face. Despite everything, the darkness consumed me in moments, and I feared my fate.

[A/N: I'm aware that this is REALLY short, but I honestly couldn't think of anything else to write into the chapter. I'm not sure about you, but I feel there is enough information for the starting chapter. Nonetheless, what are your thoughts? Are there areas where I could use improvement? What would you change about the society?]
