Her eyes closed and she slumped to the ground but strong arms caught her and lowered her the rest of the way gently. "Chrissy!" She heard Eddie's panicked voice clearly. "Are you ok? Please be ok!"
"Eddie," she murmured. Her eyelids fluttered open and she saw his deep brown eyes looking back at her. She was laying crumpled in his arms on the floor. "Eddie," she said. The fear rose in her again. Chrissy sat up and looked frantically all around her. She was in Eddie's trailer. The lights were on. She wasn't in her home. She wasn't in the nightmare. There was no monster.
The tears came then. A huge flood bursting through her fractured mind. Eddie wrapped her in a hug and Chrissy sobbed against his chest. She clung to him as though he were her only tether grounding her in this reality, the only thing she could be sure of.
"Chrissy," Eddie said her name so gently, his voice so thick with worry it made her cry even harder. What was happening to her? He pressed his cheek against the top of her head and held her and she cried out all the fear that had been plaguing her all week. She cried until there was space in her head to think again. And when she could think she told herself: This is real. Eddie was really there, really holding her. There was no monster.
When Chrissy's sobs finally turned to sniffles she pulled herself gently away. All that time Eddie hadn't moved; now he brushed her hair away from her face before sitting back. "Chrissy, what happened?" he asked. "I couldn't wake you up. I tried, but, it's like you were in a trance or something..."
"You won't believe me," she sniffed.
He reached over and squeezed her arms reassuringly. "I'll believe you."
"I've... been seeing things," she whispered. "It's been like this all week. At school, in the woods." She gulped. "This time there was a monster. He was going to kill me, Eddie." Her lip trembled and she started to cry again. Eddie pulled her back into a hug and she tried not to think what she'd just been thinking. But it was no use. "What if it comes back for me?" She choked out the words.
"Shhh, it's ok," Eddie whispered. He brushed her ponytail to the side and rubbed her back in slow circles. For the second time that night, she cried herself out in his arms. "You're safe." He soothed her over and over, and she told herself to believe him. She was safe. Eddie had saved her.
Author's Note:
Hi! I know there wasn't any music in my version of Chrissy being saved from Vecna but in this little alternate reality I've invented, escaping Vecna isn't all about the music.
I like to think that Max was saved in part just because she felt a renewed connection to Lucas. When Vecna had her, Max remembers the bond she has with Lucas and realizes she can talk to him. I think Chrissy would have had that same realization about Eddie. Vecna chose Chrissy because she was isolated. She wasn't talking to Jason or her parents or any of her friends about what was really going on with her. But she was able to talk to Eddie about it in the woods. I think that even as she was running from Vecna, Chrissy would have remembered her bond with Eddie and been able to find her way back to him. The way Max was able to find her way back to Lucas.
What do you think? Thanks for reading Part 3!
