int. dungeon - night
GUARDS stand stiff as PRISONERS shift restlessly in their cells.
GUARD POV
A cloaked figure (SNOW WHITE) wearing an EMERALD CLOAK walks slowly down the hallway.
CLOSE ON the hooded SNOW WHITE. Her face is not visible but she BREATHES HEAVILY as she walks.
SNOW WHITE reaches the end of the hall at the last prison cell. Nearby stands a large, hunched-over PRIVATE GUARD.
SNOW WHITE
(to GUARD) I wish to see her.
PRIVATE GUARD straightens up and looks at the SNOW WHITE. He does not see her face.
PRIVATE GUARD
No one is allowed to see her.
(he smiles, almost amused by her request)
I'm on strict orders from the royal family.
SNOW WHITE lowers her hood and reveals snow-white skin, coal-black hair, and forest-green eyes.
PRIVATE GUARD gasps.
PRIVATE GUARD
Your Majesty, please forgive me!
(he bows awkwardly)
I wasn't expecting anyone from the palace tonight.
SNOW WHITE
No apology necessary. But please do not speak of my presence here tonight.
GUARD
(nods)
Of course.
SNOW WHITE turns and faces the BARS, waiting for them to be raised. PRIVATE GUARD hesitates.
PRIVATE GUARD
Are you sure you want to go in there, Your Highness?
(he pauses)
There's no telling what she's capable of.
SNOW WHITE
I must see her. At any cost.
PRIVATE GUARD nods and begins turning a LARGE, CIRCULAR LEVER.
SNOW WHITE takes a DEEP BREATH and continues past them. One by one the many layers of BARS are raised and then lowered as she walks past them.
In the PRISON CELL a woman is sitting on a stool next to a tiny window. She does not face SNOW WHITE.
EVIL QUEEN
(softly)
Hello, Snow White.
SNOW WHITE
(nervously)
Hello, Stepmother.
(she trembles slightly)
I hope you are well.
EVIL QUEEN
I heard that you are the queen now.
SNOW WHITE
It's true. I've inherited the throne as my father intended.
EVIL QUEEN
(icily, superior)
So, to what do I owe this honor? Have you come to watch me wither away?
SNOW WHITE
On the contrary, I've come to understand.
