⚊ chapter thirty six

This night is probably the most eventful one in my life yet. My brother had taken the wrong time to leave. As part of the editors in the school's newspaper, he could've scooped a good amount of gossips to write about.

There was just someone he'll never attemp to write for. Which is me.

And yet, it feels like since I got pulled in Heeseung's life, I was dropped into many dramas such as this one.

"What the fuck is wrong with your head?", a shrill voice came from tbe side of the auditorium, the opposite way Ni-ki and I came from.

"Look I'm really trying to be nice, but I'm not interested. In what way do I need to mark that in your mind?", a male voice I immediately recognized as Heeseung's responded.

Was that Jiyoon then? From where we were standing behind a van, we were just out of sight of the two. I wanted to peek around but I was just as frozen as Ni-ki.

"Seriously? You don't want me? You'd rather play with that junior?", Jiyoon snarked back.

"I only went down here with you since you said Sunhee is here. I'm sorry but I need to find her", Heeseung said, sounding exasperated.

His words softened my heart slightly and I looked over to see Ni-ki giving me an examining look.

"So this is all about her again? You want Sunhee?", Jiyoon spat. I held my breath waiting for Heeseung's response, "Wow. Looks like the baby sister of your friend is finally getting what she wanted after clinging to your group like a monkey since she came in this school two years ago"

She laughed with a darkness in her voice. Tears sprang in my eyes at how carelessly she could insult me even if I did nothing wrong to her.

"What are you talking about?", Heeseung questioned.

"Oh please, you didn't know? She has been inlove with you eversince, I can hear it from her friends. It's pathetic really, she's obssessed and it was too bad for her brother, she's using him to get to you. That little girl is a genius"

It was as though the world around me fell away as anxiety kicks in my system. I didn't hear Heeseung's response or Ni-ki asking me if I was okay.

The ringing of blood was rushing through my veins and my ragged breathing was the only thing I could focus on. I briefly noted that Ni-ki was carrying me away from the two, then down the parking lot and out onto the lawn.

Soft grass tickled my legs as Ni-ki pulled me down to sit on the ground with him. The small tingles of his hands rubbing on my own relentlessly caught my focus and it tug me back to the reality.

"Come on, Sun.. Look up in the sky and think of how wide it is or what you can see", Ni-ki said forcefully as he sat in front of me.

Taking a deep breath, I stared up in the sky and I knew I needed to ground myself before I pass out on him.

I looked around the stars twinkling and imagined how freeing it would be up there, "I see you... the stars and.. the galaxy", I wheezed between breaths.

"Good. Now can you feel my hand?"

"Yes", I added with a weak smile.

He didn't leave me through the rest of the exercise and by the time I'm done breathing hardly, I was able to focus.

"I don't know what I would do without you, Ni-ki", I sighed as I stood up properly with his help.

"Well, you're about to find out", he said venomously, "Because I'm pretty sure I'm going to jail after I'm done with that girl. I don't care if she's a woman, she hurted you"
