As an unemployed adult women I applied at all jobs I could come by, big and small. Sometimes I wouldn't even read the job ad description and go straight for sending my resume. Most companies wouldn't even send a reply back thanking me for the intrest in the job. I was bored and felt like the world had given up on me.
I received an email from a company asking if I wanted to work and live at a horsefarm together with a few like-mined women for a few months. Ever since I was a child I have always loved horses. After school I spent my whole afternoons on caring and grooming the horses in their stalls at a local riding school. My mom was against me riding horses considering it to be dangerous. I envied the girls at the riding school because they were allowed to ride those precious horses. When I grew older I started to get other things on my mind and gave up the dream of having a horse. The love for horses never died..
I hurried to accept the offer even though the short email could just as well be a scam. Surprisingly, I was given a date and address of where the job would take place.I brought with me a small bag with the most necessary things. On the date I was going to be there, I ordered a taxi and left early in the morning. Throughout the trip I was nervous, I did not know what I had given myself into.
The farm was far outside the town I lived in surrounded by mostly mountains and forest. When I arrived I was greeted by an elderly woman with long red hair presenting as the owner of the farm, her name was Carrie. She had a daughter named Emmy who was also a participant in the survey. The farm had a general strange feeling about it. I could not put my finger on what it was that created that feeling. Emmy showed me around the whole place. The farm had a large garden area that provided them with food all year round and a stable filled with only horses.
The farmhouse was not as big as I thought it would be but big enough to fit all the other participants. We participants consisted of 8 girls aged 18-35. Someone had been homeless, one who was a local celebrity, one from a religious family, we all had different backgrounds. One thing we most shared in common was beauty. It felt like I stood out because I saw myself as average in my appearance. I was short with long blonde hair and soft facial features. My body was not petite with a small waist.
After meeting the other girls and been showed around the farm it was time to sign the contract Carrie had waiting for me at her office. Carrie's office was in the same buildning as the farmhouse. On the walls at carrie's office she had a group of framed diplomas of different competitions her horses had been into. Carrie picked out the contract and a pen from the desk drawer and placed it in front of me on the desk.
- "It's just for you to sign, there are no oddities in the contract." Carrie said.
I frothed through the first page of the contract while Carrie looked out the window behind her and waited. The first page looked very normal and I signed the contract. Carrie turned back to me and looked very pleased.
- "You will work here for 5 months and your job is to take care of a specific horse here on the farm. I hope you are reasonably knowledgeable in horses otherwise Emmy will help you if you find any difficulties. When I'm not here on the farm, Emmy is in charge. Do you have any questions?"
- "No, not for now." I answered Carrie back.
- "Good and one thing more, you care about your horse and yours only."
