***Flash Back***
"Grandma, why does mum, dad and everyone else hate me?" I asked, looking up at Grandma with sad eyes.
"My sweet, sweet grandchild, they don't hate you!" She said, reaching out and gently stroking my cheek.
I turned away and looking out at the meadow of wildflowers, not wanting her to see the tears gathering in my eyes, and spilling over. I was watching the wildflowers sway in the breeze as I spoke. "But they do! They may not say it out loud, but still I hear it and I can feel it!"
"Now now my child, you mustn't cry." My grandmother spoke softly, as she turned my face around and started wiping away my tears gently. Kissing me on the head "It's not that they hate you, its because you're different to them." She said, looking down at me with loving eyes. "To me, you're special, and always will be." She was saying, which made my feel a lot better, until the moment was interrupted.
As one of my sisters came up the hill calling out. "Grandma are you here?"
To which grandma replied. "Yes dear I am." She called to her, as Jezebel appeared around the other side of the great white oak tree. As soon as she realised that grandma wasn't alone she stopped.
"Oh .... Didn't know you were here!" She sneered at me, before she turn to Grandma with a smile. "Mother said she needs to speak with you Grandma." With that she, turned and walked away towards the house, but only after a few steps, she turned slightly looking back over her shoulder at before saying, "Before I forget, mamma wants to see you to." With one last smirk, she left with out waiting for a reply.
"Come on then Meredith, we'd better go before she gets angry that we are late." Grandma said, reaching for my hand and heading for the main house.
But for some reason I couldn't quite explain, I just knew that something wasn't right, that something was going to happen, and by the look on my sister's face, it had something to do with me.
When we made it back to the house, I had no more time to ponder my thoughts, as my mother called out that they were in the living room.
"In here mother, and bring the girl" My mother called from the living room.
'"The girl" has been my name ever since I could remember, and that my own mother, she has not called me by my real name, for just as long. Only when she absolutely had to, which wasn't that often ' I thought.
As we made our way down the hall, towards the living room, we found my mother, and father sitting in their chairs. My older brother Isaiah along with his twin Isa-Marie, standing on either side, and a little behind our parents. Last but not least, the triplets, standing a little off to the side of our mother Cassandra, Alexandra and Jezebel all waiting for us.
"Well you took your time!" My mother snapped looking at me. Like it was all my fault.
"Don't you dare take that tone with me young lady! I'm your mother, and you will do well as to remember that!" Gran snapped back, shaking her head and looking at her daughter with disgust. "How could you turn out like this? More worried about what people will think, then your own daughter's happiness, is beyond me!""So you know what I want to ask you then?" She waited until Gran nodded her head before she continued. "And I am looking out for my children! I'm saving them from the pain, and the ridicule from having a sister that is human!" My mother said with an inner pain "I don't want them to go through, what I had to, with Daisy!" My mother finished, looking at her children with sad eyes and reaching out to grab father's hand.
Besides me Grandma stiffened. Looking up, I saw gran's face get really scary. Mother was still looking at my sisters, her other daughters, as she continued. "So you can take her away! So that the others may have a chance at a normal life?" When she finally looked back at us, she was shocked to see her mother's face.
"How dare you! Bringing up your sister like that?!" Fumed Gran, as she looked back at my mother. "You know all to well, what made her do what she did!"
Wondering what's happening I pulled on grandma's skirt. "Who's Daisy Gran?" I asked in confusion.
Kneeling down so that she was level with me, Gran said. "Daisy, my dear, was my other daughter, and your mamma's twin sister!" She finished with a sweet smile.
" But what happened?" I asked.
"She got sick, really sick, and died. Enough of sad stories alright?" She said, touching my cheek gently, lovingly, before she straightened up and faced my mother. "Alright I'll take her away from this place, and away from you!" With that she grabbed my hand, and headed out of the room with me in tow.
We spent the next few days packing our things in Grandma's little cottage, that I have called home for so long. When the day finally arrived for us to leave, I was so happy inside, that I couldn't stop smiling. When we were driving away the house got smaller and smaller as the further away we got. All I could think about, was that this was the best day of my life, and it couldn't get any better.
