You wake up bright and early on a Tuesday morning for school. Dreading the day that lies ahead, you apprehensively drag yourself out of bed and into the bathroom. As you brush your teeth, you remember that Steve said he'd drive you both to school today. Your mood instantly brightened up a smidge since this gave you extra time to spend with your favorite person. Usually Steve, being the mess that he is, woke up too late to have the time to stop by your house before heading to school. He made a promise to you that he would take you today though. And one admirable thing about Steven Harrington is that he never broke a promise to you. Not once in your 8 years of friendship did he go back on a promise and you were so very glad he didn't. You really weren't in the mood today to take the bus to school and have Fred talk your ear off about the school newspaper. After brushing your teeth and washing your face, you decide to put on some more makeup than your usual mascara and lipstick combo. You took a sparkly, champagne-colored eyeshadow and placed it all over your lids, following with a little eyeliner, mascara, and a mauve-y lipstick. Taking one last glance in the mirror, you decide you're happy with today's makeup and quickly slip on a pale yellow dress before making your way downstairs and into the kitchen. Mom and dad always left for work super early so they were never there when you got ready for school. You pour yourself a bowl of honey nut cheerios, your favorite, with milk and turn on the television, flipping the channel to a cartoon. This was your favorite ritual before school that you'd been doing for years. As you finish your breakfast, you hear a few honks coming from the street. Your favorite boy has arrived.
You grab your backpack, slip on your Reebok's, and sheepishly make your way outside as you realize you dressed up on the one day Steve is taking you to school. Hopefully he thinks nothing of it.
"Whoa, who are you all dressed up for?", Steve says, rolling down the driver's side window, eyes wide and smiling brightly.
"No one...", you reply blushing.
So much for thinking nothing of it."Well hop on in y/n.", he says, gesturing to the passenger seat.
As you make your way around the front of Steve's BMW, you could've sworn you'd seen him eye you up and down out of the corner of your eye. You decide to just brush it off and chalk it up to imagining things. Opening the passenger side door and sitting down, Steve gives you the goofiest smile you've ever seen.
"What's that look for?", you say, chuckling.
"Nothing, you just... you look great.", he replies.
"Thanks goober. Now drive.", you command as you try to hide your smile.
"Alright, alright.", he responds, raising his hands like he's surrendering.
Steve drives slightly recklessly, so being his passenger can get nerve-wracking sometimes. Usually he'd manage not to do anything too stupid but today was one of those exceptions. Today he's a little extra heavy on the gas which concerns you.
"Steve, slow the fuck down! We're not in a rush!", you sputter, holding onto the handlebar above the window for dear life.
"Come on, there's nothing wrong with a little rush of adrenaline before school!"
"I swear to God, Steve, if you crash this car..."
"Don't worry, I've got this.", he says confidently as he looks over at you.
A car pulls up out in front of you.
"WATCH OUT!!!", you yell."HOLY-"
Steve slams the brake pedal and the car comes to a screeching halt. The handlebar slips out of your grip and almost reflexively Steve sticks his arm out in front of you to keep your head from hitting the dashboard.
