Sakusa was stretched out in his beach house now, the morning sunlight filtering through the blinds, casting soft patterns on the walls.
He'd meant to wake up earlier, but the comfort of his bed and the soothing sound of waves outside had lured him into staying put.
Just as he was sinking back into a half-asleep state, his phone buzzed on the nightstand, followed by a familiar voice.
"Hey, this is Atsumu, and yer probably sleeping right now, but I just wanted to come by and say how I really enjoyed ya hanging out with me and my family yesterday, and oh yeah—I got yer number from Iwaizumi. But yeah, bye, and have a good rest, Omi!"
Sakusa's eyes shot open, and a surprised smile crept onto his face as he scrambled to grab his phone.
But as soon as he touched the screen, the voicemail ended, leaving him staring at the phone with a mix of frustration and excitement.
Only Atsumu would leave such a casual yet unexpected message.
With a groan, he finally pushed himself up, deciding it was time to start his day.
As he walked to the bathroom, he could feel a hint of excitement bubbling under his calm exterior. He replayed Atsumu's voice in his head while the water ran warm in the shower.
After a quick breakfast, he threw on a loose, comfortable T-shirt and some shorts and headed out to the living room, where he spotted Hoshiumi and Hinata lounging on the deck.
"Look who's finally awake!" Hoshiumi teased, grinning up at Sakusa. Hinata waved, his usual bright smile on full display.
"Yeah, yeah," Sakusa muttered, rolling his eyes but unable to hide the faint smile that played on his lips.
"Must've been a good night if you're sleeping in this late," Hinata added with a smirk.
Sakusa shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "Just... had a lot going on."
They spent the next couple of hours just hanging out, chatting about old memories and Hinata's latest beach adventures. But no matter how much he tried to focus, Sakusa's mind kept drifting back to Atsumu.
That voice message, Atsumu's easy laugh, the way he'd been so genuinely happy to spend time with him now... It was a rare feeling for Sakusa, and he couldn't help but replay the moment in his head.
"Earth to Sakusa?" Hoshiumi's voice broke through his thoughts, and Sakusa blinked, realizing both of his friends were staring at him with amused expressions.
"Thinking about someone, maybe?" Hinata teased, nudging Sakusa with his elbow.
"Not particularly," Sakusa replied, though his tone was a little too casual. Hinata and Hoshiumi exchanged glances, and it was clear they didn't believe him.
Just then, Hinata's phone pinged. He glanced down at it and grinned. "Oh, hey! Looks like the lifeguard on duty is Atsumu again today."
Sakusa's heart skipped a beat, and Hoshiumi didn't miss it. "You should totally go down to the beach, Sakusa," he suggested, nudging him with a mischievous smile. "Get some sun. Go 'accidentally' bump into Atsumu."
Sakusa tried to brush off the suggestion, but the idea had already taken root. With a casual shrug, he stood up, grabbing his sunglasses and slipping them on.
"Well, I was planning on spending some time outside today anyway." he said, because their other friends left them to go eat out. Such a bitch move.
Hinata and Hoshiumi snickered behind him, but he didn't care. The thought of seeing Atsumu—maybe even casually flirting—had Sakusa feeling surprisingly eager.
