"You're the Ambassador's daughter." Vulcan finally stated what he'd been suspicious of for a while. "You have a different last name- that's why I wasn't sure-"

"Yes, she used her maiden name for work... to protect us." You clung to the fabric of Beni's Kimono as you processed, staring vacantly over his shoulder. He held your waist and your head, but you couldn't see the worry in his face.

"Jewels was your mother..." Konro staggered back to lean against the nearest wall. "Oh Y/n. Of course. I should've seen it, I-" his eyes watered. "If I would have known- I-" He shook his head. "You're so much like her. She'd be incredibly proud of you."

Beni's hand rubbed soothingly up and down your back as your gaze drifted further into the distance. You blinked a tear down your cheek. "Beni... Don't let Joker leave Asakusa." You pleaded with a dark intensity in your voice.

He released you hesitantly, but grabbed a matoi, and flew to the border.

Vulcan and Konro followed closely behind you as you reached one of the vacant homes near the border. Beni held Joker against the wall with one hand. "Now what's this about, Y/n? Did Mr. Almighty just now learn our history?"

"Was my mother's death a naturally occurring combustion?" You asked, emotionless.

His smug expression dropped. He knew this day would come. He'd prepared for it. And yet, it was harder to admit than he thought. "... No. And she didn't combust."

"How would you know that- You- killed her- didn't you..."

"Yes."

Beni grabbed Joker by the neck.

"Let him speak." You said hollowly.

Beni's grip loosened.

"I was ordered to kill your whole family. And given a bug for the Ambassador. I- couldn't. It was quick. Painless. I promise. I burned her body afterwards to make it look like I'd followed my orders."

Your breath quickened.

"I- kept an eye on you all after that. You, even though your mother had told you so little, walked her same path anyway. I wanted you to be able to protect yourself. I wanted you to be safe."

"So it was no accident that I ran into you in the archives?"

"No." He admitted.

Konro's eyes shifted between you and Joker. You were composed in this conversation, but the emotional vacancy in your eyes scared him.

"I... trusted you." A heat burned in your chest. "I cared about you- I-" You believed him. You believed that he'd actually granted your mother mercy, that he looked out for you, but it didn't change the fact that you'd sucked the dick of the man who murdered you mother. You buckled, and vomited.

In the same moment, Konro locked eyes with Vulcan and pointed at your house up the street. Vulcan ran off. Konro kneeled at your side with a hand at your back, and Beni lifted Joker off the ground by his throat. "If you ever step foot in this town again-" His eyes blazed through his threat.

"I-" Joker choked out.

"I don't give a fuck about what you have to say. How dare you lie to her."

"I- didn't-"

Beni's red eyes were hunting as he pulled Joker down to his face by his throat. "Safe?" He hissed. "You don't give a fuck if she's safe. You knew the break in would put her in danger. You don't give a shit about anyone but yourself." He dropped Joker, who grabbed his neck and coughed as he sucked air desperately into his lungs. "Get out of my sight before I burn you alive."
