"i don't know." sounds like the same way she answers my questions.
but she was either hiding the harsh truth, or she doesn't really know why.
i'd say, "me too."

it doesn't look the same. nonetheless, the blonde continued to set the silverwares on the table. she wasn't sure if some of her placement were right, it has been a little while since the last time that they sat down together and ate.
she rushes back and forth inside the kitchen, burning the tip of her fingers. her wife would be home any minute now. jennie used to come home earlier than this hour, but she doesn't blame her for growing weary.
she no longer raised questions either.
jennie arrives with her being enveloped in nonchalance. she looks exhausted, but no matter how much lisa wanted to wrap her arms around the brunette there was no point.
she sits down across the other, just like how it always was when they ate dinner together. lisa considers asking her how her day was for a moment, but she dismisses the idea.
it remained silent for the first few minutes, the lipstick on jennie's lips had slowly faded. the blonde heaves a sigh, she knows it wasn't work that her wife got tired of.
lisa stands up from her seat, jennie lets her, paying no mind at all. she comes back with a bottle of wine and two glasses,
"come drink with me." she offers a weak smile, maybe there's hope.
they approach their living room where the fireplace was. they sit on the carpet warmed by this. with their glasses half-filled with the alcohol.
maybe it was their intoxication that made it so easy, maybe it was the wine that was talking— that it started to feel the same. maybe it was just them still hoping, but maybe they're just completely desperate.
though in between everything, they both knew.
"thank you for waiting for me tonight, i really expected for you to be asleep, or out i don't know." jennie bites her lower lip, she wasn't sure of how she felt, was she anxious? lonely? angry— no, she's over that.
"it's nothing, besides i really wanted to." lisa responds, and it hits her.
her wife knows her too well, jennie knows what she meant. she leans her head on lisa's shoulder.
"can't we just go back and fix it? i'm tired of us like this." was something jennie badly wanted to say but she shouldn't stoop so low.
"i'm so sorry." lisa felt like the words were running out of her mouth, she didn't budge. it was what she was meant to say.
"i'm sorry that i failed to be the wife i told you i'd be." she knew that jennie needed to hear it even if her apology was something they kept on denying. it pains them, jennie heaves a shaky sigh.
"i am too. i'm sorry lis, i let us be this way." she lifts her head from where it settled, she looks up to her wife and approaches for a kiss. for lisa, it wasn't too hard to fall back into it— perhaps it's what she longed for.
jennie's body was warm, but her hands were cold. though lisa complies, she gives her what she wants.
by morning, the ink had dried on the paper.
the food had gotten cold, and neither of them wanted to touch it.
