taeil purses his lips, his lips curling downwards into a frown. it doesn't sound believable at all to him. it came out of nowhere and taeil is expected to believe it and a part of him really doesn't. it's all way too sudden.

"misuk, you're really moving to japan?" taeil says into his phone. "why?"

"my husband's sister got sick," his sister explains. "of course, he wants to go over there to be with her and help out with her kids. she's a single mum and with her being so sick, it's hard for her to care for them. it's the right thing to do as her family."

"oh, that makes sense," taeil nods slowly. it's still a lot to take in. "it's just that... you haven't texted me in weeks and out of nowhere, the one time you do, you tell me you're leaving the country. it's so sudden."

"ah, i know, i'm bad for that," misuk admits from the other end. "and i'm sorry, tae. but yeah, i know i needed to say something because me and my husband are leaving today, okay? take care, little brother, i love you."

"love you, too," taeil says quietly into the phone before being the one to hang up. it's feels so uncalled for to him, and he's trying to understand her reasoning. yes, her husband's sister is sick and it makes sense to be helpful family members, but she's hardly ever spoke to him recently since she married him and after several days of silence from her end, now she has to leave.

she's not even just visiting. she's full on going to live there now in another country entirely.

he wishes she said something sooner because apparently, misuk decided the day she and her husband were leaving for japan was the best time to tell her own brother. it's just the silence... the silence before the thundering sudden news and it struck taeil pretty hard. maybe he is mad at her for not saying something sooner. perhaps a hint of betrayal in there too, of course. he should call when she lands to check up on her, but he doesn't want to. a big part of him doesn't.

make her feel the same way. stay silent and let her wonder what you're up to.

misuk probably doesn't care, anyway.

taeil puts his phone down on the kitchen counter, the screen off and a blank and just black. his eyes linger on it for too long, but he knows she's not going to send another call or text. it'll just be silent again.

never mind the 'maybe's earlier. taeil is mad.

a door opens and from the bathroom, out appears his roommate, kim doyoung. his dark hair is wet and sticking to his forehead, a towel resting on the back of his neck. the new arrival makes taeil look up at him instead at his blank phone. doyoung smiles at him in return despite the look upon the other's stony face.

"surprised you didn't make breakfast already," doyoung says with a casual tone and he slips the towel off of his neck.

doyoung relies on taeil for too much.

"i don't feel like that," taeil retorts with an edge to his voice. "make something yourself. you know how to."

"ooh," doyoung bites his bottom lip. "attitude. seriously, though, you're upset. what's wrong?"

taeil glances at his phone again-the blank screen is taunting him. it feels like it. "nothing. nothing's wrong."

the other doesn't look convinced whatsoever. doyoung furrows his eyebrows as he walks over to the couch to pick up the tv remote and turn it on. "well, i suppose you don't want to share with me."

taeil looks at the tv screen, seeing the news reporter talk. "not at all."

"a weird outbreak of people attacking others and biting others," she starts to explain as the two men watch out of curiosity. "and those who are bitten end up the same way hours later. doctors can't explain what's going wrong."
