The darkroom was filled with the scents of candles. Suddenly one of the candles was lit and soon all of them were. Panicked, I look around hoping to find something other than the candles. But I was not expecting to find a hord of people in cloaks. One of them stepped in front of me and took their hood off to reveal a masked face. They spoke and their words shook me to the core.
"Ramen. Everyone, ramen." Then all in unison, "Ramen".
"Let all be seasoned. And may we start Layers." The, whom I presume to be, leader knelt down and did what they call, 'Layers' whatever that may be.
"All rise to be seasoned." The masked face spoke and all the others took their hoods off to reveal more masked faces. Then, some sort of chicken-smelling powder came from the ceiling. Everyone reacted as if it was rain and they'd been cooped up inside for decades.
After they finished the 'seasoning' the leader spoke once more. "Now, on to today's matters. You, my friend," They pointed to me." have been invited to join in our activities." Everyone shouted and cheered.
Afraid of what would happen if I declined, I spoke. "Sure, what are your activities?" The leader came closer and untied me from my chair that I failed to realize was holding me down. "Well, for starters we eat. A lot. We worship our Gods and Goddesses, we do Layers, all are seasoned, and we hang out."
"What does 'Layers' mean, and what was the seasoned thing about?" I speak while a robe and mask are handed to me.
"Okay, basically this is a religion. I am what they call, 'Lord and Savoir'. I didn't ask them to, they just do. 'Layers' is like praying, prayers. And 'Let all be seasoned' is what we say, you saw us wash our 'sins' away. So in short, we're a religion about food."
I love it already.
