I hate mornings. I never want to get up. Sometimes I will just lay there in my bed for half an hour. This morning is one of those mornings. Yes, I have school today. When I got out of bed, I noticed that my brothers lava lamp was off. He never turns it off. I thought. Then again, he always gets up 20 minutes before the bus gets here and he is afraid of the dark.
“Wait a minute, that doesn’t make any sense. He wouldn’t turn off his lamp if he was afraid of the dark,” I said out loud. I walked into his room but he wasn’t in his bed. I thought that maybe he went into Mom and Dad’s room. I was going down the stairs and I noticed that the normal smell of shampoo wasn’t in the air. My cat, Mr. Meowgy, always runs up to me the minute he knows I am up. He didn’t this morning. I finally got to the bottom of the stairs and checked his food bowl. Completely full, same with his water bowl which is almost entirely empty most of the time.
“Huh, that’s weird? I always have to feed him every morning,” I said in a whisper. Maybe he is downstairs in the basement using the litter box or sleeping. I thought to myself. I noticed that the windows were all dark and the house was way, way, way too quiet for a school morning. I figured that maybe Dad had already gone to work, since he usually goes at 4-5:00 am anyways. I could feel a dryness in the air. I went into my parents room, but the bed was all made and nobody was in the bathroom or anywhere. Mom could have gone to work early, Dad may be at work already, and Kalvin could have walked up the street to Grandma’s house. Although I don’t know why he would have? My mind was thinking up a storm about where everyone could be... Then, I noticed the smell. It was the smell of wet grass. I thought, How is there wet grass in the house? I was practically going crazy so I tried to call Mom, Dad, and Grandma. No one answered. Now this officially getting creepy. I have never been so covered in questions in my life. I decided to go on with my usual morning and ate breakfast, got dressed, and brushed my teeth. It took me no longer than 10 minutes to get ready. I was packing my backpack when someone knocked on the front door. I opened the door. Bad idea, I thought. I stood there staring out at the outside world in front of me. Breathless. Wondering how I got here. How I got there.
