✨✨The dominant king✨✨

Chapter~18

🌹Katherine's POV🌹

The king started marching towards me in large strides in an intimidating manner. My eyes went wide and I clenched the books tightly and started moving back as he came closer. Until the library was parallel against my back.

He was now directly against me, his face was centimeters away from mine but his eyes were not on me, they were on my books.

He brought his hand up and I flinched at what he would do. He pulled out one of my books making the others fall from my hand. He took a step back and I stared at him with my jaw dropped. Literally my mouth was wide open. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow and motioned his eyes towards the ground.

I quickly closed my mouth and kneeled down. I picked up the fallen books into my tight grip again and kept on looking at the ground waiting for his scolding.

"You read Dostoevsky?" He asked in an amused voice.

"Y-yes." I stuttered still looking down not wanting to look into his eyes. It will not help anymore with the intimidating environment.

"What else did you pick?" He asked. He sounded calm. Maybe he didn't mind me taking the books. Or maybe this was just the calm before the storm and he is going to kill me... With a book!

"I-I am s-sorr..."

"I asked what else did you pick." His voice was a little higher this time sending shivers down my spine. It's okay Katherine you tried.

"Nietzsche, Kafka, Strugatsky brothers.." I started reciting like a good little pet and he interrupted.

"Strugatsky? You read science fiction?" He asked amused again. Where is he going with this?

"Yeah?" I don't know why it came out more as a question.

"How do you know these authors, they are famous but rare" he asked me again now bending down so that we were eye level.

"Look please, I am sorry, I worked at a library, I read, and I saw them here and I couldn't stop. I haven't read in a while. I am sorry. I will never touch them again, I didn't know what happened I was just lost and then I was just taking books and looking for more and I was... I was... I never.. I mean... They... S-sorry. Please don't hit me." I finally took a breath. I don't know how but I said all that in one single breath and closed my eyes waiting for his reaction.

I felt a finger beneath my chin making me look up into the king's eyes.

"You're apologizing for being witty?" He asked with a genuine smile on his face. Like a proper smile, no smirk.
