CHAPTER ONE"I'm standing in the ashes of
who I used to be."______________________
. . .
When Sakura Haruno had opened her eyes after death, she saw darkness. She had felt no ground beneath her feet, yet she was not falling. There was no light in this void, yet she could still see, surprisingly.
Sakura Haruno had died during the war. She glowed even in the afterlife it seemed, for her see through body was lit up in an eerie green, the only source of light in this dark place.
She had also been lit up in a burst of fire not long before this, she was gone before the last of the flames had even died down.
Her ashes were all that were left.
She was fine with being dead though, for she had done what she needed to do. She had avenged her precious people - now gone - and now felt a sense of peace.
She looked down at her body, unmarred by the battle scars of war, and no longer held down by the weight life gives your shoulders - and it was true, she couldn't feel the ground, but she wasn't falling, she was floating.
It was then that she smiled a true smile and laughed, a genuine and wholehearted sound that reverberated throughout the dim space. It wasn't fake like the ones she had to do everyday for the last several years for even a slither of hope to light in her comrades - alive - eyes.
Those days - when the realisation that they had already lost the war had sunk in- insanity was a common thing. It was normal for a person to fear so much and hope so little when they knew they were going to die very soon.
War had shaped them all. Sakura was a valuable asset and leader, her strength and healing saved many lives, and lifted many off the ground.
Her faith and hope was never ending, and gave many a reason to fight, even when all was lost. Even when only they remained standing. Comrades taught each other everything they knew, anything to keep them alive and breathing, because the thought of losing someone again was too much to bare. They were always waiting though. Waiting for them to not come back one day.
War hardened you. It hardened your heart and soul. It took and took but it also gave. It gave you comrades who looked out for you. It gave you family and in some cases, it gave you life.
Civilians were taught how to expand their chakra reserves, and when they were ready, they were immediately taught everything they needed to know.
