You Chopsticked Me, You Know That?
"For god's sake!" Jakob says through gritted teeth as he punches the metal door.
"Punching stuff won't help, hubby," I chuckle.
He glares at me. "Don't you fucking DARE call me hubby."
I roll my eyes and slide down against the back of the elevator and reach for my bag.
"WHERE'S MY PHONE? WHERE'S MY BAG?" I start to freak out.
"Shit we don't have our phones? How are people supposed to know we're stuck?" he rants.
I stop immediately.
"What do you mean? Why won't people know we're stuck?" I'm sure that we must have something coming up and people will realise we're missing.
Right?
"People won't know we're stuck because that was our entire schedule for today!" he hisses at me.
"It's not my fault!"
"Yes it is! If you hadn't rushed us out of there then we would've had time to grab our bags!"
I sigh, "It's not that bad, the system will pick up the breakage and they'll come fix the elevator and get us out of here."
"But this place is massive, they'll hardly notice. I could be hours, days even before they 'come to our rescue'," he deadpans.
"You were never this negative when we dated, what happened to you? You were so happy," I say sarcastically.
"You happened," he whispers.
"Excuse me?" I say indignantly.
I suppose I haven't given you enough of a backstory.
~~
Me and Jakob met on the first day of middle school.
We were both still dorky and young, dumb and innocent.
We'd never had our hearts broken before, we still believed that love meant forever.
I first saw him in Music
I was early and he was already there when I arrived.
For 5 minutes, we were completely alone; no teacher, no students, just us.
"Hi," I'd whispered shyly, not sure if he was nice yet.
"Hey. You're really pretty," he blurted out, then going on to blush and apologise.
I'd giggled and told him it's OK, and that he's pretty too.
Our conversation was cut short as people had arrived, but in the days that followed, we sat with each other at lunch, chatted all the time, until finally he asked me out.
Obviously, I'd said yes.
By that time, he'd become popular and I'd become a nobody.
Like I said before, it lasted 18 months, though those 18 months were beautiful, he'd hold my hand and take me on walks.
We'd have picnics and go on bike rides, have sleepovers and stay awake all night watching the stars.
Stay awake all night just to watch the sunset with each other...
It was all perfect-
until he broke up with me.
No warning. Just came up to me and said "We're done, don't talk to me or text me."
And that was it.
Inside I was dying but I didn't show it, I had no friends to talk too, either.
I remember a few weeks later, I met Rae, she was new, slightly silly but incredibly intelligent
ANYWAY!!
Back to the elevator
~~
"What do you mean I happened? You broke up with me, you asked me out, if anyone happened, it'd be you!" I snap.
"I didn't want to break up with you, did I?!" he yells. "My mates told me it was wrong to date you, told me it was sick."
"So what?? You just decided to because those idiots thought it was a good idea??!!" I yell back.
"I thought I'd be able to get over you! But you just moved on like I was nothing!" He says furiously.
"I didn't move on! You chopsticked me!!" I say, really upset now.
"Chopsticked?" he asks, calming down in confusion.
"You broke me, like chopsticks. You chopsticked me, you know?"
He just shakes his head at me.
"I still loved you... I still do," I murmur.
"You're really pretty."
