March 2012
"Miyano!" Sasaki shouted as I ran up to him.
"Sasaki..." I said, looking at the almost full moving van behind him. "What is this?"
"It's...uhm, moving van. You know, the thing people use when they move and stuff" He tried to explain to me.
"I know what a moving van is dumbie. But why?" I asked.
"We're moving. I don't know why or where. Mom just told me yesterday and..." His voice trailed off.
I frowned. "Moving? Forever?"
He nodded sadly. "B-But...we'll still talk. I have the walkie talkie I gave us." He pulled it out of his pocket with a mischievous grin.
I smiled. "We can still talk then! It's okay. We'll still be besties forever."
"Really? Forever?" He asked, smiling. "Forever." I affirmed.
I put my pinkie finger out to him. "Pinkie promise."
His pinkie met mine. "Pinkie promise." He repeated.
"Shuumei!" Sasaki's mother called out. "It's time to get going. Have you said goodbye yet?"
"Yes Mom! Give me a moment." He yelled back, then looked back at me. His eyes filled with tears. "I'm gonna miss you Miyano."
My eyes soon too started sweating "I'm gonna miss you more Sasaki."
He opened his arms and I quickly fell into his embrace. I clung onto his faded red sweatshirt like I would die if I let go. He smelt of sunshine, detergent, and a faint smell of pancakes. I inhaled his scent one last time so I would never forget it.
"Shuumei! Cmon, we need to get going, it's gonna be a long drive." His Mom called out again.
"C-Coming Mom." He said in between tears. He let go of me and soon I pulled away. We looked at each other, our faces both messes from crying. He started walking off when I suddenly remembered something.
"Wait!" I called out.
Sasaki turned around, puzzled.
I reached into my shorts pocket and pulled out two bracelets. Red and blue. Red was his favorite color and blue is mine.
"I made these for us...they're friendship bracelets. I was gonna give them to you today, and I almost forgot to." I said shyly.
His face lit up. "Miyano! This is amazing. Thank you so much. He took one out of my hand and asked me to tie it on his wrist. "I'm never taking this off. Thank you so much."
"O-Of course.." I said through tears, I wiped them off and tried to smile for him one last time.
"Shuumei! Come on! I'm gonna leave you here if you don't hurry up." His Mom called out once more.
His face looked worried then, he thought his Mom would actually leave him.
"I need to go now. Thank you Miyano, I'll see you later." He waved while walking off.
"See ya..." I said, slowly waving back.
I watched him get into his mother's car and the moving people shut the truck door. I didn't leave until their car was out of sight.
March 2022
"Miyano...Miyanoooo! Miyano!" A voice shouted at me. "...Huh?" I looked around, confused.
"Dude you spaced out again. Are you good?" Yamato asked, waving his hand around my face. My eyes focused and I saw the beige walls of a bedroom that wasn't mine. Drawings and paint splatters littered the walls. Idol posters and figurines were found, with a bookcase filled with manga. Oh right, I'm in Yamato's bedroom, I thought.
