San wakes up at 6 am as usual, after a quick shower he throws on his uniform and heads downstairs to meet his mother for their daily conversation about how he needs to act and who their having over that night. San has grown used to this treatment, so he does not complain, instead he takes a seat at the kitchen table with his mother while his father watches the news.
"Mother, what would you like to tell me as of today?" San asks trying to speak to his mother's liking.
His mother nods in acknowledgement, "I'm glad you're used to this dear, we have a modeling scout coming to our house they are going to take a look at you and measure you a bit, be on your best behavior or you will be grounded, plus you know how your father gets."
San nods "I understand."
She smiles, "Good, now head off the school."
San stands up and goes to the door he knows not to look behind him after he leaves because his mother will get angry, she thinks it's 'improper' to wave her child goodbye, San doesn't understand why but he does not question it. As he exits his home, he sees his close friend waiting for him on the bus stop bench staring at his phone, San smiles widely as he walks to his friend.
San makes it to the bench and sits next to his friend who is still distracted by his phone ignoring San's presence, after a while of sitting the bus finally arrives and his friend gets on first San follows closely behind.
As his friend takes his seat San goes towards the back of the bus, he knows better than to sit with his friend if he chooses to, they will no longer be friends. The bus ride is agonizingly long, and San's mental state worsens every second, he stares outside the window in regret, he wishes he looked back he wishes he decided to speak to his friend he wishes something were different with his 'perfect' life.
The bus finally arrives at the school and San quietly exits the bus, he heads towards the entrance as he watches the friend groups talking about their interests and inside jokes, he's never wanted something more than that but he could never have that, there's no ways he'd be able to understand other's interest when he doesn't even know his own favourite colour, he knows what his mom wants his favourite colour to be though, he doesn't know his favourite activity but he knows his mother wants him to enjoy piano.
San doesn't understand himself let alone others, and that's how his mom wants it to be.
As San enters the school, he sees his homeroom teacher approaching him with a frown. Sans heart begins to race, he cannot afford a mistake. His teacher stands in front of San and sighs deeply.
"San, I saw what you did last night online, you shouldn't be staying up this late when the paper was already perfect! Your health matters more than grades, didn't your parents teach you that? I'm starting to get worried."
The wave of words almost flew past San, but he nods despite not understanding why it's such a big deal, after all his parents tell him homework comes first and if it's 'perfect' make it better. The teacher shakes his head and walks away towards the classroom seemingly giving up on him.
San goes to his locker and grabs his books quickly, others around him are on their phone waiting for 8:30, San would've done the same but his father told him to get in class first so he can work ahead on his assignments, and he did not question his father's order. As San enters the classroom, he sees his teacher going through papers with an unfamiliar face, curiosity gets the best of him as he slowly approaches his teacher.
"Is he a new student?" San asks.
The teacher shakes his head, "No. he's just transferring to this classroom, how about he sits next to you?"
San smiles, "Of course! But what is his name?" San shouldn't have said yes, his mother chooses his friends for him he can't get too close to this man, he might be bad news.
"My name is Seonghwa, what's your darling?" Seonghwa says his voice sounding velvety.
San blushes but denies the awe-struck feeling, "My name is San, thank you for asking Seonghwa."
Seonghwa smiles and nods as if to say, 'no problem'. This could be dangerous for San, he doesn't know anything about this guy besides his name, he will have to pay close attention.
San and Seonghwa take their seats next to each other, he pulls out his pencil case and notebooks, and then remembering his mission he looks towards Seonghwa who is staring directly at him with a grin. San turns back to the front of the classroom flustered, Seonghwa notices and laughs making San turn a bright red.
He sighs, I can't let this man interfere with my studies or focus! People start entering the classroom in groups which means class is starting, usually San would be staring directly at the board, but his mind keeps wandering off to other things like what it would be like to hang out with friends after school, what it would be like to embrace his flaws instead of criticizing them, sadly he will never know.
As San picks up his focus the class period seems to fly by, notes after notes, questions after questions, and finally the hour is over and the bell rings. San stands up and stuffs his items neatly into his bag he throws his bag over his shoulder ready for the next period but suddenly he hears a voice behind him,
"Your bags open dear!" Seonghwa says catching a falling notebook,
San turns around quickly and smiles "Thank you Seonghwa." He grabs his notebook back and once again puts it in his bag this time making sure it's zipped.
Suddenly San's name is heard on the intercom to his dismay. San walks out of the classroom and quickly makes it to the office where his mother is sitting, he can't help but wonder what has happened.
"You're for dismissal San." The principal says smiling at his mother.
San sighs out of relief, "I understand."
His mother turns to him with a smile, she waves the principal goodbye and walks out of the office, San doesn't understand why he is for dismissal when he has never been but of course he does not question it until he enters his mother's car. They finally get into the car and his mother's smile fades into her normal serious expression.
"Change of plans sweetie, the scout wants to see you now he says he doesn't have enough time before he has to go back to the US, and by the way dear, his son will be staying with us for a bit, no complaining suck it up he will be staying in your room." San has always admired how his mother is straight to the point, but he wishes her word choice was kinder. He nods in agreement, though he wants to say no he cannot.
They begin to drive to their house which is luckily about 5 minutes away and just as soon as San decides to take a break they arrive, San sees a shiny sports car outside of his house and quickly puts together who it belongs to.
his mother steps out of the car and San follows close behind, they enter their house and Sans eyes swiftly analize the supposed 'scout' on his couch, he seems genuine yet a bit bizarre. San fakes a smile to his best ability and heads to his living room where the scout is present, he extends his hand for the man to shake, and the scout gladly excepts it they are on to a good start.
"Hello San, as you may already know I am Mr. Jung, to my dismay we don't have time for a proper meeting, but I will keep in contact with you. Oh, and by the way San you have a gig tomorrow with a friend of mine, and I'm sure your mother already told you about my son."
A gig? tomorrow? "Of course, sir, I will make sure your son feels welcomed at my home, and the shoot tomorrow will bring you nothing but good things! Expect a lot Mr. Jung." San says pretending to be aware of everything.
"Oh, I will San, with a face and body like yours you will go far." The scout says chuckling, usually San would shake of the comment, but he doesn't really like that Mr. Jung still won't let go of his hand.
"Anyways, my son is right here let him introduce himself." The scout says finally releasing Sans hand.
A handsome man around Sans age appears from the corner with a mischievous look, "Hello my name is Wooyoung, what's yours pretty?"
