Chapter 12: The Final Days (Before the Contest as Maya confronts Willy)

Willy's POV: This is it. The final days before the competition. Man, I'm so hungry and a little hungover from the hunger. Well, I gotta make these count. Uh oh.. Maya's onto me! I need to distract her somehow. "H-Hey, Maya!" I say causally with a grin. She's not buying it. She's looking at me with a scowl. I know that look. When Maya's mad, she is SCARY. "Don't "Hey, Maya!" me, Willy! You haven't explained to me why you're doing this. I need answers!" Oh, boy.... That's the thing about Maya. She's bound to get worked up so easily. Hmm.. think, Willy.. think! What can I say to make her believe me? "Maya, I'm fine. I'm just tired and sleepy. Plus, I'm still going to participate in this contest." Maya sighs and responds, "Willy, look at yourself! You haven't eaten in a few days! You're looking as thin as a stick bug! If I were you I'd plump back up again, if you know what's good for you." Maya pokes my stomach as she says this. I grimace and smile as sweetly as I can and try to tell her the truth.
