"You think I did this for money?" The crook said, standing next to the now destroyed safe. "Oh that's rich!" He said with a hysterical laugh. "Put the weapon down!" Sage Cardinal, the police captain shouted. Usually a bank robbery would be handled by your every day police officer, but this wasn't any bank robber, this was a psychopath, a mad man. Cardinal didn't understand why someone like him would rob a bank, but then again why did someone like him do anything? "Oh this little thing?" The crook said twirling the gun carelessly in his hand. "I think I'll have some fun first." He said with a crooked smile. "I want your hands where I can see them!" Cardinal shouted. The crook laughed, it was an unpleasant sound, his voice was edged with such pain, it was obvious this man had seen things. "Stop feeling bad for him!" Cardinal mentality scolded himself.  This was no time to sympathize with the bad guy! Cardinal focused his attention on the gun in the other man's hand, he couldn't wait for backup, the other officers had been trapped by the rubble caused by a bomb that had gone off, undoubtedly planted by the crook. Cardinal remembered thinking as he ran ahead of the others "This guy really is fucking crazy!" "Put the weapon down or I'll fire!" Cardinal commanded, pointing his own gun at the other man. The crook seemed unfazed at the prospect of a gun aimed at his head. "Do you really want to shoot me? If you do then you'll never get to know why I really did all this. Isn't that your job? To figure out who did it and why?" The crook asked calmly. "My job is to protect the people!" Cardinal said, despite knowing better he was intrigued by the man's words, why had he done this? "That's nice cop, but don't lie to yourself, you follow the orders of the people above you and they follow the orders of the people above them, it's simple really, painful but simple." The crook said, an almost crazed look in his eyes. "I'm not playing your games! Now put the weapon down!" Cardinal shouted, this guy was crazy, he didn't know what he was talking about! He didn't just follow orders, he helped people, right? The crook sighed "You cops don't get it do you? It's always 'put the weapon down!' or 'you're under arrest!' Don't you ever drop the good guy act?! Don't you ever think that mabye you're in the wrong?!"  The crook was screaming now, almost hysterically. "You robbed a bank, then blew it up!" Cardinal shouted. "But did you ever ask yourself why?! Ever think mabye I had a good reason?! Oh who am I kidding, of course you didn't, you were too busy playing the good guy to notice the lies!" The crook was yelling, Cardinal wondered if he was really paying attention to him, he seemed lost in his rage. "People like you took everything from me! Everything! I had to spend my life alone, stealing to eat, sleeping wherever I could, not knowing if I'd ever feel truly happy again! And for what? So you could give yourself a medal, pat yourself on the back for climbing your way to the top. Well guess what?! You built your ladder with the Blood of innocent people! The same people you claim to protect! You people call me sick, me the monster, me the bad guy, but if you would only look at your own crimes you'd see you're the true monster!" The man  had completely lost it, he tossed his gun to the floor "Go ahead cop, shoot me, prove me right." He said with a sneer.
