The Promotions

"Mara, you've been promoted." Obi said casually as he popped his head into Vulcan's workshop.

"Hell yeah!" Vulcan held up a hand for a high five.

"Sir?" She asked confused, ignoring Vulcan's hand.

"You're a lieutenant now. I received notice that every station, regardless of size, must bring 2 lieutenants to the showcase next week. Don't worry. Hinawa will still be doing all the paperwork."

She smirked. "Right. Thank you, sir."

"Don't thank me. It's long overdue." Obi called back as he continued down the hall.

"How do you want to celebrate?" Vulcan mused behind her.

She peeked over her shoulder and glanced him up and down.

You shared highlights from the invitation as the 7th gathered for breakfast. "The academy welcomes each captain and two lieutenants to the annual showcase. This year, we are especially honored to welcome the Euro and Tokyo Empire Ambassadors as distinguished guests."

"Well. That's a trap." Gaku sipped his tea.

"I have to agree." Konro sighed.

"A trap for who? It's not like we're going." Beni took his first bite of French toast. He understood why you liked it so much.

Gaku rolled his eyes. "It's a trap for us, dipshit." And tipped his head towards your big eyes.

"I want to talk to the Euro Ambassador..." You requested softly.

Beni paused. "Do we know for sure that the Euro Ambassador will even show up?"

You pulled out your cell phone and dialed a number that was way above your paygrade. As it rang, Gaku continued "It's not the Euro Ambassador that I'm worried about."

"General Oze?" You asked in your innocent higher-than-normal voice. Konro and Gaku looked at you with a shared expression of WHO THE FUCK DID YOU JUST CALL.

"Y/n! How are ya, kiddo?" The whole room could hear his bombastic voice emanating from your small phone.

"How fucking connected is she??" Gaku hissed at Konro.

Beni calmly crossed his arms and leaned back against the wall, watching you as you paced around the station. "I'm great sir! How's the wife?"

"She's good, she misses the family dinners. Think Maki would actually join us if we invited you, too?"

"I will certainly try to convince her, sir. It'd be great to see you all again."

"Good good. How can I help you this morning?"

"Is the Euro Ambassador coming to town for the Academy Showcase?"

"Yes!" You looked to Beni as the general continued. "I haven't met the new ambassador yet; I just know my office will be escorting them from the airport to the showcase on the day of the event."

"Fuck." Beni sighed in defeat.

"Thank you so much General, I may see you there!"

"WHAT!?"

"We'll see. I might be up for promotion to Lieutenant at the 7th." You said looking at Beni, who smirked.

"Oh, you and I are going to have a chat about this, young lady. What does Frank think?"

"He's proud of me, General."

"Uh huh. We'll talk about it at dinner next week. Expect an invitation from my secretary."
