-Before the dawn of what is known as the Younger Races (namely, Humans, Leonin, Werewolves and Minotaurs (technically not) the world was inhabited by the Ancient Races or the Elder Races. There were 5 Elder Races, the Dragons, the Elves, the Vampyres, the Lacertians, and the Merpeople. The Minotaurs did walk the earth, but only as a slave-race under the Dragons rule. When the Younger Races emerged on the scene, the Merfolk disappeared and have not been seen since. The Elves welcomed the Younger Races, along with the Lacertians, and they forged alliances and learned to co-exist. The Vampyres held back, not fully pulling away, and bided their time while they watched and planned from the shadows. But the Dragons exerted their power and continued to rule over the Younger Races with fire and death. Finally, the Younger Races had enough and, with the assistance of the Elves and Lacertians (and eventually the Minotaurs), there was a mass-rebellion against the Dragon overlords and war raged over the whole of Kearne. The Minotaurs homeland, what is now known as the Petrified Isle, was turned into a burnt-out wasteland by the Dragons and the Minotaurs were forced to move and find a new home. For around 100 years the Great Dragon War raged, until the last Dragon was hunted and killed by the other races.
-The Vampyres, ever patient, have kept to the background since the Great Dragon War. Their race is thought to have all but died out, and most of the Younger Races think them extinct. But the Vampyre Shadow Court remains at-large, waiting for their time to strike and take back what they think to be rightfully theirs.
-The Merfolk are also thought to be extinct, though sailors still spread rumors of having seen them in the vicinity of the Sea of Storms. Whether these rumors are true or not no one can say.
-The Elves and Lacertians still are at large on the Earth, having integrated themselves with the Younger Races and building themselves up alongside them. The Lotan, a ancient race of Lacertians, are also all but extinct, with only one remaining member of their race still alive.
