-Familiars are mysterious beings somehow tied to the life-forces of certain powerful magic users. They are soul-bound to a master or Sencha, and are magically obligated to follow their commands. Refusing to follow their Senchas direct orders is extremely taxing on the Familiar, to the point of being deadly. The Familiar is bound to their Sencha for life, unless magically reassigned to a new Sencha.
-Familiars come in all shapes and sizes (though almost always small animals and creatures). But all Familiars can be categorized under one of two focus or purposes.
-Informative Familiars are walking records of events and information. They have photographic memories and are very detail oriented. They serve as walking spell books for their Sencha, as well as being able to take down verbal notes and dication.
-Power Familiars are living balls of energy and power. Their jobs are to serve as batteries for their Sencha to fuel their bigger spells, though they also have the ability to record information for their masters (but nowhere nearly as efficiency as their Informative Brethren)
NOTES:
-Sarais Familiar, Midnight, is an observant little gray fox with a secret. Most who interact with Midnight assume he is an informative familiar, when really he is a power familiar who has spent decades training his mind and memory to serve both rolls.
-There is a rumor that Nyx, the pixie that travels with Mason Coldstone, is actually Masons familiar. Mason and Nyx both adamantly deny it, though some would argue that it would explain their unique relationship and how Mason is able to do all he does when apparently blind.
