Ch. 3 Call of Fate

We hike through the paths, eventually getting to a point that I recognize as the town borders, with watchtowers hidden in the trees. Honestly not the most secure way of keeping criminals out of town. It has plenty of blind spots, which is how I came into the town a few days ago when I fell out of the tree. The two kids have been complaining about the walk for half the time. Vantu tugs on my robe, I look at him.

Vantu) Jeez, are we there yet? We have been walking for four hours!

Me) It is only two hours, I have timed it myself when I went to Lyrell once. And yes, we are here.

I make sure that my hood is over my head all the way. While walking we get stopped at the gate. One of the many guards came over to us. He looks at all of us.

Guard) Do you have anything on you?

I looked up at him and he recognized my face.

Me) Not besides new clothes.

Guard) Oh, it's you Beastrix. Well, I know you're good, but who are these three?

Me) They are my friends from Lyrell, their parents are away on vacation. So they are going to stay with me and Xzyviuer.

Guard) Alright, you all can go in. I hope you three newcomers like it here!

We all walk through the big wooden arch gates into Dexu. Like always it is pretty busy, but not as much as Lyrell. We have to weave between the people to get to my house. I have to wait for them to catch up because they are not used to carrying around their whole house, so I am a bit ahead of them. I wait at the last corner right before we arrive at my house. While waiting for them I see someone slip into my house. Jeez, hurry up Nanu! When they finally catch up I grab Nanu by the arm and drag her making her break into a run. Pavu and Vantu jog with their bags as much as they can, eh, they can see which building we are going in. 

Me) Once we get to the door drop your stuff and sneak in with me. I saw someone sneak into my house. 

She nods at me, Vantu and Pavu catch up. Vantu is about to yell at me when Nanu glares at him. He seems to know what that means and he instantly stops himself. She signals them to keep their mouths shut. OK, time to go in! Vantu and Pavu stay outside with the stuff while Nanu and I go in. 

We go through the door, surprisingly it doesn't squeak. I look down, the floors are also all nice and clean. I need to focus, I see the mysterious person with jet black right behind Xzyviuer with a huge sack. They must be trying to capture him since he is a cat-person or something. I prepare myself to pounce at him, and Nanu prepares her ball and chain. I signal down from three. Three… Two… One!

We jump at him. I aim for the neck, Nanu goes for the legs to trip him. Before we even know it, Nanu has a dagger through one of the chain links holding it to the ground and one dagger at her throat with the blade opposite of the wielder's thumb, I have three aimed at me. One in between the fingers of this guy’s hand. I stop myself and hold my pose to prevent myself from getting cut. His gray-tipped hair is inches away from my fingers. The bag he held just now hits something, I see it land on the counter. Vegetables fall out, I look back at the man.

???) Who are you intruders, and what is your business?!

Me) Why should I have a reason this is my house.

Xzyviuer turns around and spits out his drink.

Xzyviuer) Let her go, that is my sister!

???) Sorry, if I knew that I would not have gone for the throat.

What is that supposed to mean? I just glare at him and then turn to Xzyviuer.

Me) Who is this idiot?

Xzyviuer) He is a man that I have been helping to get back on his feet. He has been banished from his home since he was six years old.
