The Beast Within': Into Darkness

Ch. 5 The Explanation

We open up the doors of my house and head straight inside, from the other side of the house I can hear Xzyviuer shout.

Xzyviuer) WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE YOU DOING!

Me) Calm down. I was just out on a little walk.

Xzyviuer) Going all the way up to the top of Mount Amos is no little walk.

Me) How do you know I went all the way up there?

Xzyviuer) You were talking out loud you fool, I could hear you in the other room, we all could. That is why I sent Nana and Lukeon to go keep an eye on you, but by the time they got ready to leave you were already out of sight.

Me) That explains why they got there a bit after I did.

Xzyviuer) Speaking of explaining, why don’t you give us an explanation of why you made half of us go to the top of a freezing mountain and the other half worry about all of you?

Me) Ok, I barely understand it myself, but from what I know, I have basically released some sort of ancient evil thing with this anklet that I got when I was out getting groceries the other day. But don’t worry I didn’t have to pay a single coin for the anklet. 

I show him the anklet and show him the holes that it made.

Me) And there is this reverse version of me that is kind of evil. Other than all that I just said there is not much more that I understand. OH! Also every once in a while the anklet has some writing on it that tells me things.

I look around at everyone and everybody including Vantu and Pavu have a perplexed look on their faces. They are looking at me as if I were lying or something of the sort. The one who seems most confused and angry is Xzyviuer.

Xzyviuer) Ok, so you were off causing so sort of trouble and then decided to lie about it, is that what you are saying. Because there is absolutely no way that ninety percent of that is true. You probably stole that anklet and I don’t even know what to think of this curse nonsense. But that is probably a lie too.

Nanu and Lukeon) But sh-

Xzyviuer) I don’t need you guys interrupting, I am talking to Beastrix. SHE needs to tell me what happened. 

Me) But that IS what happened, I am not lying, you can ask anyone else here.

Xzyviuer) None of them were here when you say you bought the anklet, and nobody has seen that thing light up or say anything or whatever else you said it does.

Me) Your problem is that you never listen or trust me!

Xzyviuer) That is because you do the exact same thing.

Nanu) CAN YOU ALL JUST QUITE DOWN! I may not be able to vouch for the writing or anything like that on the anklet, but I do know that something is up with her and that is not normal.

Lukeon) Yeah while up at the temple she seemed to completely change attitudes, she did not seem like herself. At least how we know she acts from our limited time together.

Xzyviuer) You guys are actually on her side? Half of this is probably lies.

Me) None of it is lies, you know I am reckless and do keep things from you, but you know that when you DO find out, I never lie. I tell you what happened every time, just like I did a minute ago. That was all true, not a single bit of it is lies.

Nanu and Lukeon) Yeah.

Xzyviuer) Alright, fine, sure, I’ll believe you. But that doesn’t make it so I am not angry about you keeping the truth from me in the first place. Just go to your room or something, get out of here for now. Nanu, go with her to keep an eye on her.

Nanu) Whatever you say, sir.

Nanu and I both head over into my room and close the door behind us. I start to toss what little belongings that I have into a small knapsack. Nanu just sits there staring at me, then she whispers to me.

Nanu) What are you doing, Beastrix?

Me) I am packing up my stuff and leaving, I can’t deal with him anymore, I also have other issues to deal with such as this stupid anklet. I need to find out how to stop whatever kind of curse it put on me, and where it came from.

I do not know how I am going to figure any of that out, but I know someone who might be able to help me, Zed, but I don’t know how I will be able to find him. Either way, I finish packing up my stuff and begin to climb out my window.

Me) You coming Nanu? 

Nanu) Sure, why not. Xzyviuer is great with those kids. They should be in good hands, the one who needs to have eyes on them is you. We both get out of the window and begin walking down through Dexu.

Meanwhile still inside the house

Xzyviuer) Hey Lukeon, I got a request for you. Beatrix is probably going to try and escape to get some fresh air away from me, go keep an eye on her. You can try not to get noticed, but she is pretty good at noticing things.

Lukeon) What about the kids and you?

Xzyviuer) Don’t worry I’ll be fine, neither of them is as bad as Beastrix, compared to Nanu, they are more behaved too. Just keep an eye on Beastrix and Nanu, Beastrix is sometimes gone for days, so just stay with her until she finally decides to come back.

Lukeon) Yes, sir, stay safe, and you need not worry.

Xzyviuer) I know, you are probably the only one in this house I can trust to do something right, and follow the rules.

Lukeon goes out of the front door and sees Beastrix and Nanu slip around the corner of one of the alleys. He then follows them while remaining unnoticed.

Half an hour later

Nanu and I cross the small river on the path to Lyrell and head through one of my many shortcuts. Before we go through the forest in my shortcut I turn and look back at Mount Amos. I don’t know when I will come back home, so I take in everything one last time before we leave. Nanu gets up from the rock she was sitting on. We head through all my shortcuts and make our way towards Lyrell. We head all the way through, picking up a bit of food along the way, and continue to the fields on the other side of town. I take a deep breath as we begin to walk through the dirt road that goes through the field. The wind blows through my hair, this is where my journey begins.
